Mississippi State’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and Astronomy Club are hosting a special Halloween public viewing Friday [Oct. 24] at the university’s Howell Observatory.
“Howell at the Moon” will be held 7-9 p.m., weather permitting, and is free to all. Arrive promptly at the event’s beginning for the best chance to glimpse Comet Lemmon.
Children of all ages are encouraged to wear costumes, and candy will be provided. Organizers also encourage participants to dress warmly.
Clouds or rain will cancel the viewing.
The observatory is located at the H.H. Leveck Animal Research Center, also known as South Farm. To reach the facility, take Blackjack Road to the intersection of Stone Blvd., then turn south onto Hail State Blvd. and continue for two miles. Signs mark the route to the site.
