The city of Poplarville will celebrate 42 years of the Blueberry Jubilee with a pageant and festival featuring outdoor activities, local history and community events.

The Blueberry Jubilee Pageant will begin May 23 at Upper Elementary School. Girls ages 0 to 18 who live in Pearl River County are encouraged to participate.

The entry fee is $55, and the registration deadline is 5 p.m. May 22. The pageant will be split into two age-based divisions.

The competition is designed to help young girls develop public speaking, self-confidence and interview skills through media and communication activities.

Participants are also encouraged to learn about the history of blueberries and the jubilee.

Miss Blueberry will receive a scholarship to Pearl River Community College. The Blueberry Queen will represent her division at the festival after the crowning ceremony.

The Blueberry Jubilee Festival will take place June 12-13. The festival was created to showcase Pearl River County and the “Jewel of the South” — the blueberry.

The festival will feature arts and crafts, storytelling, food, live performances, an annual 5K, a 1-mile fun run and a car show.

For more information on the Blueberry Jubilee Festival and Pageant, visit the Blueberry Jubilee website or Facebook page.
