Nationally-celebrated artist Lonnie Holley arrives in Jackson County to lead a Summer residency project with the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.

In an effort to give back to the local community in a way that suits their everyday mission and purpose, the Singing River Art Association participates in a number of programs that support local students in their art journey. To add to their regular offerings, this year, they are asking for donations of art supplies for a local school in need.

The family-friendly festival event is free to the public and will allow for festival-goers to enjoy a stroll through the shady park, taking in the festival, while also enjoying the sea breeze and views of the water.

WAMA and the Memphis College of Art present The Sound and the Gulf, a retrospective exhibition celebrating 34 years of artwork inspired by the wilderness landscape of Horn Island. For more than three decades, Memphis College of Art students have followed in the footsteps of artist Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-1965) as they’ve made a series of 12-day excursions by boat to Horn Island, an uninhabited barrier island off the coast of Mississippi. The exhibition, on view through September 30, coincides with the 35th annual MCA Horn Island trip, and looks back at this impressive and inspiring journey through the eyes of these intrepid creators.

Take in some live theater this weekend with the Pascagoula Senior Center Acting Troupe’s annual showcase. This year the group will present “A Showcase of Pure Comedy” over three shows from Thursday to Saturday, Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

It’s called Musaic, a term created from the fusion of “music” and “mosaic,” because it’s a place where performing arts and visual arts intersect.

The MGCCC Jackson County Fine Arts Gallery announces the opening of the exhibit “Scrutiny: Portraits Through Eyes,” featuring the paintings of Traci Stover.

“This is truly an exciting time for this Museum,” said Jaklyn Wrigley, President of the Board of Trustees at WAMA. “We conducted a diligent search – interviewing candidates from Michigan to Miami, and we could not have hoped for a better conclusion to the process. Julian fits so perfectly into the culture of WAMA. I have no doubt that he will use his multifaceted skill set and unrivaled enthusiasm to propel us to new heights.”

Local artist Matt Stebly will be the first tattoo artist from Mississippi to be on the Ink Master television show on the Paramount Network.
