City leaders are preparing for Lucedale’s 125th anniversary celebration on May 9, which will include a community pilgrimage and a family event at Lucedale Municipal Park.
As part of the preparations, elementary students from local schools and homeschool programs submitted artwork for a T-shirt design contest tied to the milestone celebration. City officials are now reviewing the entries and expect to announce the winning design next week.
The selected artwork will appear on the back of official celebration T-shirts for the event.
The celebration will also recognize the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States as part of the Mississippi 250 initiative.
According to the city of Lucedale, the May 9 event will begin with a pilgrimage at 1 p.m., followed by a Family Fun Day at Lucedale Municipal Park from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
More information will be available closer to May on the city’s website.
