Singing River Health System is pleased to announce it has joined the ranks of the nation’s best hospitals as identified by US News and World Report.   In the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-2019 Best Hospitals Study released in August, Singing River Health System is recognized as “High Performing” in both Heart Failure (CHF) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Singing River received the highest rankings possible, meaning its ratings in categories such as patient survival and patient experience are significantly better than the national average in both of these areas of expertise.

“People look to U.S. News & World Report for guidance and validation, and Singing River Health System is honored to be recognized amongst the best in the nation” said CEO Lee Bond. “These designations were made possible by the caliber, passion and commitment of our medical staff and phenomenal team of employees dedicated to our mission to improve health and save lives.”

U.S. News & World Report helps patients decide where to receive care, generating their hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals. To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients.  Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care may be ranked in their state and metropolitan area. Singing River Health System achieved the highest rating possible in treatment of both Heart Failure and COPD.

The State of Mississippi ranks among the nation’s highest for occurrences of COPD and Heart Failure.  COPD is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the two most common conditions that contribute to COPD. Heart Failure is a chronic condition in which the heart muscle works less efficiently.  Certain conditions, such as damage from a heart attack, narrowed arteries in the heart, or untreated high blood pressure lead heart muscle to become weak or stiff, causing the heart to work harder in order to meet the body’s demands for blood and oxygen.  Symptoms of heart failure may include shortness of breath at rest, swelling in the hands, feet, legs, ankles, or abdomen; dizziness, fatigue, or weakness.

Singing River Health System’s award winning clinical team has the expertise and technology to treat these conditions.   For more information visitwww.singingriverhealthsystem.com/services.
