A local C1 competitive club team, the South Mississippi Soccer Club 04 Elite Diamonds, represented the State of Mississippi at the National State Games of America held in Lynchburg, Virginia, and brought home the gold.

After announcing that they will play a pair of games at MGM Park in 2020, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will now match up against the Texas Tech Red Raiders for two games on March 10 and 11.

Back to my golf theory. There are several reasons that I believe the little white ball sport is the most difficult at which to succeed, and I will now lay them out.

Six members of the 2019 Biloxi Shuckers have been named MiLB.com Organizational All-Stars for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Shuckers have now produced 29 MiLB.com Organizational All-Stars in their five years in Biloxi.

The Lady Panthers fall to 3-4 on the season and will host Biloxi Friday night in Pascagoula.

Biloxi Shuckers Corporate Partnerships Coordinator Stephanie Chapman has been awarded the Women in Baseball Leadership Scholarship, one of four scholarship recipients among female executives in Minor League Baseball. Chapman was selected for the scholarship from a pool of female executives from various levels and leagues across Minor League Baseball. 

Nalan Kidd chipped in with 12 for Pascagoula and Bryson Hoye had eight. Pascagoula is now 5-0 on the season after defeating Jefferson Davis Saturday at a tournament in Quitman.

This year’s class of 18 seniors, who suffered several heartbreaking moments through back-to-back ugly seasons of 3-8 and 1-10, have righted the ship by finishing in third place in Region 4-5A and for the first time are headed to the postseason Friday night to face Laurel.

The Pascagoula Panther basketball team defeated the Williamson Lions on Thursday night 68-66 to push their season record to 3-0 to start the 2019-2020 season.

It’s always a wonderful thing to see someone you know receive a high honor. It’s even better when that person is so very deserving and when the honor is bestowed by an institution that means so much to him.

Pascagoula High School graduate Dick Ingwersen recently gave the summer graduation speech at Auburn University in August.

So, now we’re off and running with the pigskin season. Pascagoula will have its home opener this Friday night at War Memorial, and all other Jackson County squads will be back in action as well. Get out and support your local team of choice.

On Aug. 5, we lost a good friend from my church and our community, Margaret Moore Hollister Wolfe. “Moore,” as many called her, was 96 years young and had a full, long life.

On Friday, August 23, most local high school football teams will hit the field to open the 2019 season. Included will be the Pascagoula Panthers, with Coach Lewis Sims going into his ninth season as head man for PHS.

Sarah Bailey Thomas, one of Pascagoula’s favorite daughters, was home again the evening of July 16. Before a packed crowd of over 350 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Sarah was the keynote speaker for the 27th Annual Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County Steak and Steak Dinner.

The Pascagoula Men’s Club is again hosting the Inshore Challenge and Cobia/Snapper Shoot-Out this year as a way to raise funds for their community contributions the rest of the year. And, during the event, Calvin Parker’s alien abduction site will be given officially recognized as a historical marker.
