If you’re angling for some good family fun and would also like to do something good for someone else, then this weekend’s fishing rodeo in Pascagoula is just for you.
The Inshore Challenge & Cobia/Snapper Shoot-Out will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at The Point Park in Pascagoula from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Start time is at safe light and weigh-in will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Also, the night before, on June 11, there will be a captain’s meeting at the Pascagoula Country Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.
This rodeo, which is sponsored by the Pascagoula Men’s Club, has been going on since 2009 but was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic. Event promoters are hoping that this year it will bring out at least 75-100 anglers.
“This year, the response has been positive, and as far as sponsorships, it’s been real successful. A lot of people are talking about fishing, so hopefully, everybody is gonna come out. People are ready,” Pascagoula Men’s Club Vice-President and Fishing Chairman Jack Northrop said.
Mitchell Haarala, President of the Men’s Club, has big hopes for the event, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic slows down.
“We hope to bring the community together and enjoy the time together and enjoy the fellowship that everybody missed out on over the last year. This is getting us back to normal even more.”
The event is not just to enjoy a day fishing or to enjoy the natural beauty of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but it also serves as one of two major fundraisers sponsored by the Men’s Club. All money raised will be given back to the community.
“We put on this fishing tournament to raise money to give out to the community, to support the needs of the community. Some of the things we do is cook hams at Thanksgiving to give to churches to give out to the elderly or people in need,” said Northrop.
Besides a day of fishing, attendees can expect live music, good food, and a good time for the entire family. There will also be a huge raffle giveaway.
To join in on the fun, tickets are $65 per person. For more information and rules, visit the Pascagoula Men’s Club on Facebook or contact Northrop directly at (228)366-7015
