Easter falls on the first weekend of April this year, on Sunday, April 5, 2026, to be exact. For many Mississippians, Easter is a time to gather with friends and families to celebrate the day with good food and family fun.

But this holiday is also the most significant religious observance of the year for many residents of our state. As such, it is a time for churches of all sizes and various denominations to present their annual Passion Plays as a means of honoring and teaching the most important tenets of the Christian faith.

But in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Easter means one thing for sure: Redbud Springs Cornerstone Church will present its 41st annual Passion Play. Every year, people from the local area, as well as central Mississippi and beyond, travel to Kosciusko to attend this well-known and cherished production.

As the state’s longest-running Passion Play, this annual production, titled His Last Days, depicts the final days in the life of Jesus Christ, including the momentous events leading up to his crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. It is a one-hour, outdoor dramatic production that takes place each year, presented on the grounds of the church.

Biblically accurate costumes, make-up, props, and sets accentuate the authenticity of this live production that was first written by Reverend Charles Wiggers. This impressive production is an important tradition for many Mississippi families, with several generations attending together annually.

In previous years, no admission was charged for attendance, and a free nursery was also provided by the church. There is ample parking provided for all vehicles, including church buses and vans. This free parking is located near the church, quite close to the actual dramatic production. But please note that guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to spread on the ground while viewing the play.

As usual, three performances are scheduled to take place at 8:00 p.m. on the three nights preceding Easter – Thursday, April 2, Friday 3, and Saturday, April 4. The church is located on the corner of East Washington Street and Natchez Street in the heart of downtown Kosciusko, Mississippi.

To view a short documentary on the history of the Passion Play and the church members of all ages who have participated in the drama for multiple years, go to: redbudspringscornerstonechurch.com/passion-play.

If more information is needed, call Redbud Springs Cornerstone Church at 662.289.1412 or email the church at [email protected].
