An informational meeting was held the evening of June 15 at the Pascagoula Senior Center to share the findings of the SOAR Athletic Committee and Pascagoula Recreation Commission, as it relates to the Recreation Plan for spending the recreation bond funds.

Some topics brought up at Thursday’s meeting included a discussion about a planned performing arts center by the Pascagoula-Gautier School District as well as the expansion of baseball and softball fields.

Planned improvements for IG Levy Memorial Park include tennis court upgrades, improvements to parking and lighting, as well as skate park and pump track expansion.

Some plans for Andrew Johnson Recreation Center are to construct a pool house, upgrade lighting and surface on outdoor basketball court, and improve signage on building to match the city design and aesthetics plan.

Recreational opportunities that require alternate funding were also brought up during the meeting, which included an outdoor adventure area , expansion to the Pascagoula County Club golf course, and an aquatics center located at the senior citizens center or Belair Shopping Center. Greenway Trail was also mentioned, which would include a walking and biking trail linking recreational, residential, and commercial areas of Pascagoula.

For any questions, please contact Pascagoula Recreation Center at 228.938.2356.
