Since I recently wrote about the ongoing road to championship gold for Mississippi’s high school basketball teams, it also seems quite appropriate to relay the winners of one of our state’s highest honors for individual basketball players – Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball.

Presented each year by C Spire in conjunction with the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and the Mississippi Association of Coaches, the 2025 winners of these prestigious awards were announced on Tuesday, February 18.

With one female and one male winner from each of the seven MHSAA high school classifications, the winners this year are:

    Miss Basketball

1A – Akiah Prince, Simmons High School

2A – Macie Phifer, Ingomar High School

3A – Caitlin Hall, Coahoma County High School

4A – Meg Moore, Tishomingo County High School

5A – Shamira Morton, Canton High School

6A – Jakera Ducksworth, West Jones High School

7A – Fran Kelly, Hernando High School

    Mr. Basketball

1A – Stanford Spearman, Jr. – Coffeeville High School

2A – Devonta Thompson – Bogue Chitto High School

3A – Kedrick Simmons – Booneville High School

4A – Tim Holliday – Itawamba Agricultural High School

5A – Jamarion Fleming – Canton High School

6A – Phil Nelson – Ridgeland High School

7A – Braylon Barnes – Brandon High School

Amazingly, Ingomar’s Macie Phifer was also crowned Miss Basketball in 2023 and 2024, with her first win from Class 1A play and her two subsequent titles garnered in 2A action. Phifer was also chosen as our state’s Miss Volleyball in 2023 and 2024.

Also of note, Meg Moore from Tishomingo County High School is a freshman, making her our state’s youngest recipient of the Miss Basketball title.

And the list of 2025 Mr. Basketball winners contains the names of three previous winners from last year, including Coffeeville High School’s Stanford Spearman, Jr., Kedrick Simmons from Booneville High School, and Canton High School’s Jamarion Fleming.

With the third round of high school championship hoops going on across the state this week, all the 2025 Mr. and Miss Basketball winners will be recognized at the Mississippi Coliseum during the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi’s 2025 MHSAA State Basketball Championships (February 24 through March 1) – also known as the Big House Classic.

On March 4, the 2025 Mr. and Miss Basketball winners will also be honored with a special awards luncheon in the MHSAA Conference Center, which will be livestreamed by the NFHS Network.

For more information on student award winners, the award luncheon, the current basketball championship bracket, plus times and dates of the Big House Classic, look online at mhsaa.com.
