Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is hosting Sensory Sundays beginning June 21, aiming to provide individuals with autism and other sensory needs a comfortable and inclusive museum experience.
Charlotte Smart, a Lynn Meadows Discovery Center admissions representative, said the center has noticed many children with sensory issues.
“We know things can be overstimulating for some kids on the spectrum, so we try to have a day where they can avoid loud noises and lights as much as possible,” Smart said.
The space will be open every second Sunday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. The free event will feature reduced light and sound levels, sensory bags and designated quiet spaces throughout the museum.
In partnership with KultureCity, sensory bags will be available for all ages at checkout at no cost with a valid ID.
There will be two areas available to explore, with quiet sections located on the first floor in the Artist Studio and on the second floor in the Sensory Space and Respite Room.
Headphone zones, or loud areas, will be centered at The Port on the first floor, with It’s a Matter of Science located on the second floor.
