I was excited to recently attend Essential Scrubs and Beyond’s magnificent grand opening in Gautier.

I met and talked with the business’s owner, Teraty. Teraty has worked in the healthcare profession for nearly 16 years and understands the importance of quality, durable, comfortable, stylish, yet affordable scrubs. Today, she works as a family nurse practitioner and does some travel nursing when she is not at the store.

“I have contemplated the idea of starting a scrubs business for years,” Teraty said. “We have the local community college, MGCCC, here in Gautier and other healthcare, beauty, dental, daycares, food industry, and veterinarian clinics, but most have to travel outside the area to purchase scrubs. I wanted to bring a scrub shop to Gautier for easy accessibility.”

Teraty is very community-oriented as she wants her business to help with local growth, provide potential jobs, and keep revenue within the community.

“My goal is to provide customers with a unique shopping experience by bringing them affordable, quality, comfortable and stylish nursing apparel,” she said.

Essential Scrubs and Beyond offers onsite, online, group fittings, and special ordering if needed. For those who can’t visit in person, Essential Scrubs and Beyond also has a user-friendly website.

The store is truly a great experience. They have numerous items ready for pick-up – from scrub tops and pants to medical items such as stethoscopes, lanyards, and badges. They also offer lab coats and jackets, C&C Sweden Clogs, Think Medical sox, and Sassy Badge Reels among many other famous brands.

Me personally, I’m not in the medical profession, but I love and have worn scrubs for many years. They are so comfortable around the house, and I love the big pockets to work in my garden. When I told Teraty this, she pointed out that scrubs aren’t just limited to the medical world.

“I think scrubs are great for everyone, not just medical people, because of the comfort, durability, and different styles we have now.”

Medical professional or not, comfortable scrubs are for everybody and they can now be found in Gautier.

    Address: 4341 Gautier-Vancleave Road, Suite 6B, Gautier, MS 39553

Brenda Lewis is a native of Jackson County. She has attended the University of Southern Mississippi on numerous occasions, earning a BS in Architectural Technology, advanced studies in Accounting and now on a mission to finalize her Masters of Business Administration. Brenda is an avid fisherwoman, owns her own boat, baits her own hook, cleans her own fish and cooks them. But sorry guys, she has a loving husband, daughter and 4 grandchildren. When unable to fish her spare time is spent in the greenhouse and garden, supplying fresh edibles for the family and cultivating local species and rarities. In 2007 her team was awarded the 2007 Golden Eagle Challenge from the University of Southern Mississippi. The challenge was to create the best business plan and presentation of a viable technological business. In 2015 she was certified as a TapRoot Cause Analyst, a system used to improve performance, fixing small problems to avoid major incidents. Having worked in a small family business since childhood she was exposed to entrepreneurship. That experience led her to her own business, tax preparation, where she served her loyal clients for 10 years. During that time, she earned the Enrolled Agent certification with the IRS, and insurance and security licenses, offering additional services to her clients. Her employment has been in private business, government, contract and corporate settings. Mostly in management, her tasks included a variety of administrative, safety, Quality control and human resources. “The reason I want to write for OurMsHome is I have experienced the advancements in Jackson County first hand over the past 50 years, and I feel that the county has made enormous progress. We need to ‘toot our horn’ and let the world know about our rich history and abundant natural resources.”
