    Pascagoula, MS — The Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) is excited to announce its 2026 Summer Library Program, themed “Unearth a Story.” This free, family-friendly initiative encourages readers of all ages to explore books, participate in engaging programs, and earn prizes throughout the summer.
    Registration opens May 30, 2026, with programs officially beginning June 8, 2026, across all JGRLS branches.
    This year’s theme invites the community to dig into stories, history, science, and creativity through a variety of interactive events and performances. Highlights of the program include:
    • June 8: Addie May’s Spotlight Elite Dance
    • June 9–11: White Tiger Lion Dance Team
    • June 15–18: Storytelling program, “A Story, A Song”
    • June 22, 23, 25: Museum of Natural Science visits
    • June 24: Walter Anderson Museum of Art
    • June 29–July 2: Freedom Ranch Wildlife Center
    All programs are completely free, and participants are encouraged to read books and earn prizes throughout the summer.

    JGRLS Highlights Libby as a Summer June E-Resource of the Month
    PASCAGOULA, MS — As summer begins and families prepare for vacations, road trips, and relaxing days at home, the Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) is encouraging the community to take the library wherever they go with Libby, the library’s free digital reading app.
    Libby, powered by OverDrive, gives JGRLS cardholders access to thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines, all available at no cost with a library card. Readers can instantly borrow bestselling novels, children’s books, travel reads, audiobooks for long drives, and more from their smartphone, tablet, or computer.
    “Summer is one of the busiest reading seasons of the year,” says JGRLS marketing team. “Whether someone is traveling across the country or enjoying a staycation at home, Libby makes it easy to keep great books and audiobooks right at their fingertips.”
    As part of the June E-Resource Highlight campaign, all JGRLS branches will help promote Libby through in-library displays, circulation desk handouts, and staff outreach. Public Relations will also support the initiative through social media, digital displays, community engagement, and upcoming meetings.
    Patrons are encouraged to visit their local JGRLS branch for assistance downloading the Libby app and learning how to access digital materials with their library card.

    East Central Public Library Hosts “From the Boneyard” Special Guest Program
    PASCAGOULA, MS — East Central Public Library invites the community to explore the fascinating world of animal bone collecting during a special summer program, From the Boneyard, featuring guest speaker Gabrielle Lovelace, on June 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
    As part of the library’s Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program, guests will get an up-close look at unique animal skulls and bones while learning about personal collecting, preservation, and the stories these fascinating specimens can tell. Gabrielle Lovelace will share insights from her own collection and discuss the intriguing science and curiosity behind bone collecting.

    East Central Public Library Announces Teen Summer Programs for “Unearth Your Stories”
    PASCAGOULA, MS — East Central Public Library is inviting teens ages 12–17 to discover creativity, history, science, and hands-on fun this summer with its Unearth Your Stories series, held Mondays at 3:00 PM throughout June.
    As part of the library’s Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program, teens can participate in a variety of engaging activities designed to inspire imagination and self-expression:
    • June 8 – Worry Worms: Learn beginner crochet techniques while creating adorable stress-relief worms. No experience needed.
    • June 15 – Bioplastic Suncatchers: Use cornstarch and natural materials to craft colorful whimsical décor.
    • June 22 – Paleography Pals: Explore writing through history, from ancient cuneiform to creative junk journaling.
    • June 29 – Clear as Mud: Create colorful mud paint to decorate rocks, clay pots, and more.

    Participants will explore the fascinating world of animal skeletons and discover how dramatically different bones can look from the living animal. Guests will test their detective skills by identifying animals based only on their skeletons,  with a prize awarded to the winner!

    Hurley, MS — The East Central Public Library invites the community to slow down and connect at its weekly “Teatime Thursday” gathering, held every Thursday at 1:00 PM.
    Hosted by Ms. Tammy, this relaxing program offers a welcoming space for conversation, camaraderie, and a shared appreciation of tea. Attendees are encouraged to sit a spell, enjoy good company, and take a moment to unwind in a friendly, low-key setting.
    “Teatime Thursday” provides an opportunity for community members to connect, share stories, and enjoy a peaceful break in their day.  The program is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

    East Central Public Library Invites Families to Join “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” Challenge
    HURLEY, MS – The East Central Public Library is excited to launch the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading in young children. This free, year-round challenge encourages families to read together and track their progress—one book at a time.
    The program is open to children from birth to age 5. Even repeated books count, and families can earn a small prize for every 100 books read. After reaching the 1,000-book milestone, participants will receive a special prize to celebrate their achievement.
    Sign-ups begin this September at East Central Public Library. “Reading with your child every day builds vocabulary, strengthens bonds, and lays the foundation for future learning,” said Lynn Rainey, branch manager.

    Held on the first Saturday of every month, this creative gathering encourages participants to use recycled materials, paper scraps, vintage-inspired elements, and personal mementos to create unique and artistic journals.     The workshop will take place on Wednesday, June 24 at 4:00 p.m. and is designed especially for teens interested in hands-on art and crafting activities. Participants will learn how to create impression-style “fossils” using air-dry clay and paint to design their own unique prehistoric artwork.

    Ocean Springs Municipal Library Announces 2026 Summer Library Program: “Unearth A Story”
    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS — The Ocean Springs Municipal Library is inviting children and families to embark on an exciting summer of reading, discovery, and adventure during the 2026 Summer Library Program, “Unearth A Story.”
    Beginning Tuesday, June 9, 2026, elementary students can join the library every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for free weekly programs featuring storytelling, cultural performances, wildlife encounters, and hands-on educational experiences designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
    This year’s “Unearth A Story” theme encourages children to dig into books, uncover new adventures, and explore creativity and learning throughout the summer while earning prizes along the way.

    Ocean Springs Municipal Library Partners with Walter Anderson Museum of Art for Teen Block Printing Workshop
    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS — Teens are invited to explore the art of printmaking during a special Block Printing workshop hosted by the Ocean Springs Municipal Library in partnership with the Walter Anderson Museum of Art on Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00 PM.
    Led by presenter James Karlson from the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, participants will learn the creative process behind designing and producing original block print artwork. Teens will also have the opportunity to watercolor their finished prints and take their artwork home.
    This hands-on summer library program encourages creativity, artistic exploration, and self-expression while introducing participants to a classic artmaking technique.

    Ocean Springs Municipal Library, in partnership with Jackson County 4-H, is excited to announce the launch of a Robotics & STEM Club for children and teens.  The club will meet every other Tuesday, beginning March 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library.
    Participants will gain hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with a special focus on robotics. The program is open to multiple age groups, including Cloverbuds (ages 5–7), Juniors (ages 8–13), and Seniors (ages 14–18). In addition to skill-building activities, the club may participate in competitions with other STEM and robotics clubs at the local, regional, or national level.

    Pascagoula Public Library Announces 2026 Adult and Family Summer Library Programs
    PASCAGOULA, MS — The Pascagoula Public Library is inviting the community to “Unearth a Story” this summer with a variety of exciting and educational programs for teens and adults throughout June as part of the 2026 Summer Library Program.
    Programs will explore dinosaurs, archaeology, ancient civilizations, art, and creativity through hands-on activities and interactive experiences. Space is limited for all programs, and participants are encouraged to RSVP by calling or visiting the library.

    Pascagoula Public Library Hosts Weekly Preschool Storytime
    Pascagoula, MS — The Pascagoula Public Library invites families to join Preschool Storytime every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Children can enjoy a morning filled with stories, songs, and fun activities led by Ms. Sara.  Storytime is designed especially for preschoolers, but children of all ages are welcome to participate.     Pascagoula, MS – The Pascagoula Public Library invites book lovers to unwind and reconnect with reading at its Silent Circle Book Club, held every third Tuesday from 5:00–6:00 p.m.
    This unique, low-pressure gathering offers an hour of quiet reading time followed by an optional, relaxed discussion. There’s no assigned book—participants simply bring whatever they’re currently reading and enjoy a peaceful space surrounded by fellow readers.
    Designed for those who love books but prefer a flexible, stress-free format, Silent Circle Book Club creates a welcoming atmosphere where community and literature come together.

    ST. MARTIN, MS — The St. Martin Public Library is inviting children and families to embark on a summer filled with imagination, creativity, and discovery during the 2026 Summer Library Program, “Unearth A Story.”
    Beginning Wednesday, June 10, 2026, elementary students can participate in exciting weekly programs every Wednesday at 10 a.m. featuring storytelling, cultural performances, art activities, and wildlife experiences designed to inspire a love of reading and learning all summer long.
    This year’s theme, “Unearth A Story,” encourages readers of all ages to explore new ideas, uncover exciting adventures, and connect through stories while earning prizes through the summer reading program.

    ST. MARTIN, MS — Teens ages 12–17 are invited to explore creativity, science, art, and hands-on activities this June during the St. Martin Public Library’s 2026 Youth Summer Library Programs.
    Part of the 2026 Summer Library Program theme, “Unearth a Story,” these weekly Wednesday programs are designed to encourage learning, imagination, and fun throughout the summer. All crafting supplies will be provided, but registration is required as space is limited.

    🎨 Henna Tattoos

    Participants will learn about the origins and cultural importance of henna while enjoying temporary henna tattoos.
    🌋 Volcanoes

    Teens will create their own volcanoes and receive instructions and ingredients to erupt them at home.
    🖌️ Unearth a Painting
    📅 Wednesday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m.
    Participants can choose from four themes to create a painting masterpiece to take home or display at the library.
    🎭 Mask Decorating
    📅 Wednesday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m.
    Inspired by Egyptian history and mythology, teens will decorate cat face masks and celebrate the conclusion of the Summer Library Program with a small party.

    ST. MARTIN, MS __ Join us at the St. Martin Public Library on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for our exciting Homeschool Crafternoon event! Bring your family and drop in anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to get creative in the Children’s Library. After the craft session, feel free to stick around and mingle with other homeschoolers. No need to register, but it’s preferable. This program is perfect for elementary-aged children and is made possible by the Friends of the St. Martin Public Library. Remember, children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult.     Vancleave Public Library to Host “Cooking Matters” Adult Cooking Classes
    VANCLEAVE, MS — Adults in the community are invited to improve their cooking confidence and nutrition knowledge through Cooking Matters, a free six-week hands-on cooking course hosted at the Vancleave Public Library.
    The course will be held on Wednesdays from June 10 through July 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Vancleave Public Library.
    Led by trained educators through the Mississippi State University Extension Service, Cooking Matters teaches practical skills including food preparation, grocery shopping, meal budgeting, and nutrition education. Participants will also prepare and taste recipes during each class session.
    Topics and skills covered include:
    • Using kitchen knives safely
    • Reading and understanding food labels
    • Preparing healthy meals
    • Cutting up a whole chicken
    • Budget-friendly grocery shopping and meal planning
    The program is designed to help families create healthier meals at home while building confidence in the kitchen.
    “Cooking Matters teaches families how to prepare healthy meals,” organizers said. “Participants leave with practical skills they can use every day.”
