Thanksgiving is one of the most anticipated times of the year. People have all already started to plan what they’re going to cook and have secured travel arrangements. Some people are already thinking about their Thanksgiving outfits. If you are looking forward to getting ready for your Mississippi Thanksgiving, make sure you follow these five tips.

    Establishment your Menu

This may be the most fun part of planning Thanksgiving. Choosing a theme can be fun, as well. Do you want to go traditional or introduce a new idea? Most people keep it traditional, but you can still sprinkle new ideas and different types of food along with the usual cuisine you eat.

    Decide Who is Cooking

Some people enjoy cooking alone; however, it’s always thoughtful to assist them. After deciding what your menu will be, figure out what foods you all will cook. If you are planning to try something new, it’s best to start practicing cooking it now, so that it’s ready for all to taste on Thanksgiving. Otherwise, bring the dish you’re most known for. What does your family and friends ask you to cook every year?

    Purchase Any Decorations

Besides the food and fellowship, the home decor is the best part about Thanksgiving. Coordinating your decor with a theme is always fun. While decorating, make sure you consider young children who may be present. All decor should be fitting for the occasion but non-hazardous.

Get a Head Start on Cooking

Chopping vegetables, cutting up meat, marinating the turkey, and cooking certain desserts in advance are all great ways to get a head start on your Thanksgiving dinner. Additionally, now is the perfect time to start shopping for non-perishable foods and any additional items needed for cooking (pots, pans, plates, silverware, etc.).

Make Note of Your Guests’ Food Allergies

Sometimes people have food allergies that they probably don’t think of daily. However, as the host, it is crucial that you ensure that you know who can or cannot eat certain ingredients. This may mean that you will have to separate certain items and/or cutlery from others to ensure there is no possibility of cross-contamination.

    A Time of Reflection

Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on how grateful we are for every aspect of our lives. However, the preparation of this day makes it even more exciting. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s be mindful to remember that we truly have so much to be thankful for. What is your favorite Thanksgiving preparation tip? Share your ideas in the comment section of Our Mississippi Home’s Facebook page.
