    While it’s still scorching hot outside, we have officially reached the Sunday of summer with the beginning of August. Try to beat some of that heat with these fun food and beverage-related events happening across Mississippi this month.

    Iron Bartender Competition (included in the Hoka Days Arts Festival)

    When: Friday, August 11 6:00-9:00pm

    Where: The Powerhouse, 413 S. 14th St., Oxford

    Mississippi Bartender Competition done in the style of Iron Chef. This competition will be featuring bartenders representing lots of your favorite restaurants and bars, come support them and taste all of the contest cocktails!

    Birdstock

    When: Saturday, August 12 5:00-8:00pm

    Where: Mockingbird Café, 110 S. 2nd St., Bay St. Louis 

    Join us for our annual Birdstock celebration! Happy 17th Birthday to us! Live music by BSL Trio, food & drink specials, as well as a costume contest! Best hippie wins

    RnB, Ribs, & Rose BBQ Competition & Block Party

    Mississippi Soul Food Festival

    When: Sunday, August 13 12:00-7:00pm

    Where: 1203 N. Jackson St., Crystal Springs 

    Come enjoy food from over 30 different food vendors from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, & Arkansas. The Mississippi Soul Food Festival will be a mix of foods including pork chops, oxtails, candied yams, greens, fried chicken, fish, barbecue, funnel cake, turkey legs, tacos, vegan & keto options will be available.

    The Snackdown (part of the Hoka Days Arts Festival)

    When: Thursday, August 17  6:00pm

    Where: 413 S. 14th St., Oxford

    A pop up food event highlighting local food entrepreneurs from bakers, food trucks, distillers and farms. Tickets include samples of food, cocktails, and beverages made in Mississippi. Proceeds support the Commercial Kitchen at the Humanities Hub.

    When: Thursday, August 17 6:00-9:00pm

    Where: Estelle Wine Bar & Bistro, 407 S. Congress St., Jackson

    Join us for Chef’s Table! Executive Chef, Fabien Biraud, will be crafting an exclusive 7-course menu, complete with wine pairings, for up to 8 lucky diners in Estelle’s kitchen.

    A Toast to Summer: Froze at Sunset

    When: Saturday, August 19 6-8:30pm

    Where: 1310 Mulberry St., Vicksburg

    Sip on froze’ and enjoy shrimp cocktail at the Mulberry Riviera at sunset!     The City of Southaven hosts FOOD TRUCK FRIDAYS! Two locations, every Friday! Vendors choose from two locations: Arena at Southaven (7360 Highway 51 @ Dorchester) and Snowden Grove Park (6450 Getwell Rd.)

    Red Brick Brew 2023 (Part of the Red Brick Roads Festival)

    When: Saturday, August 26 3:00-5:00pm

    Where: Red Brick Brew 2023 tasting garden in Clinton

    Red Brick Roads is pleased to offer a home brew competition for showcasing the immense work and raw talent that goes into making your frosty cold one. Red Brick Roads welcomes home brewers and interested tasters alike to our 3rd Annual “Red Brick Brew.” People’s Choice Brew Award: overall winning beer based on public vote from the beers on offer during the Red Brick Brew tasting garden on Saturday, August 26.

    Slim Chickens Cruise In

    When: Saturday, August 26 5:00-8:00pm

    Where: Slim Chickens, 819 Lake Harbour Dr., Ridgeland

    On the fourth Saturday of each month (weather permitting), this event is open to all cars, trucks, and motorcycles. No age Restrictions. If you are proud of it, bring it. All I ask is to be respectful of everyone there. No burnouts and showing out! This A Family Friendly Event. If you order any food or drinks from Slim Chickens, be sure to let them know you are there for the Cruise In.
