Hattiesburg is never short on things to do and places to go. With its booming economy and the reviving of downtown Hattiesburg, you will never run out of activities to participate in this fall. If you live in Hattiesburg and are looking for something to do this fall, here are five simple, but sublime activities.

    Visit Local Coffee Shops

Grabbing a coffee seem mundane, but there is so much joy in the everyday experience. Hattiesburg has a variety of coffee shops that cater to any and every taste bud. Mulvi’s and T-Bone’s are local favorites. Besides their expansive selection, the staff are always so pleasant. What is your favorite fall beverage?

    Scroll through the Hattiesburg Zoo

The zoo is one of Hattiesburg’s main attractions. Visitors enjoy viewing the exotic wildlife, and the cooler weather makes it the perfect time to explore. If this is up your alley, the zoo’s hours of operation are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. Depending on your work hours, this is a great after-work trip or a nice way to spend a few hours of your weekend.

    Go to a Restaurant

Many restaurants are locally owned in Hattiesburg. While cooking your own food can be relaxing and even therapeutic, stopping by a locally owned restaurant is always fun. I enjoy asking the waiters/waitresses what their personal favorite dish is and ordering it. It’s a great conversation starter and a good way to introduce yourself to a new dish. Art of Roux has a glowing 4.7 star rating and Buschman Street Cafe is situated at a 4.9 star rating. These are only two of the locally owned restaurants in Hattiesburg, but the options are endless!

    Go for a Walk

Walk your pet, with your friends, or by yourself this fall. Hattiesburg has several beautiful trails and parks to choose from. Longleaf Trace is a local favorite. During the summer months, many of us longed for cooler weather to make walks or other outside activities more pleasant. Thankfully now, the weather is perfect for this. Even if you choose to not walk or bike, finding a spot to sit and have lunch or enjoy your coffee that you purchased from a locally owned cafe is always an option!

Go to Downtown Hattiesburg’s Farmers Market

Join locals every Thursday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the farmers market in downtown Hattiesburg. You can find everything from homemade baked goods to handmade jewelry at this farmers market. If you have a craft that you specialize in and want to become a vendor, there is more information on this on their website.

    A Fall Well Spent

While the autumn season is an ideal time to be wrapped in your blanket with a cup of seasonal coffee or tea, it is also one of the best times of the year to get out of the house and interact with others. The cooler weather along with the kind, charismatic locals in the Hub City make for an autumn well spent. If you live in (or near) Hattiesburg, what is your favorite place to frequent this time of the year? Let us know in the comment section of Our Mississippi Home’s Facebook page.
