It’s a Saturday at the Rock on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The first half has just ended when you hear that distinct, signature sound – “Ladies and Gentleman, taking the field, it’s your band, The Pride of Mississippi!” In a resonant and commanding voice, Dr. Mike Lopinto heralds the arrival of the beloved marching band and Dixie Darlings.

A strategic collaboration between Nancy Link and Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) will facilitate the construction of a state-of-the-art research facility and the recruitment of top faculty to advance pioneering research in the prevention and treatment of laminitis, a painful hoof disease that can lead to euthanasia for affected horses.

Thanks to a $7.9 million federal grant and a generous $4.5 million anonymous donation, a shared facility on The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Gulf Park campus designed to expand the life-changing services offered by the DuBard School for Language Disorders and The Children’s Center for Communication and Development, will soon take shape. 

Graduating seniors at The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) have been offered full-tuition academic scholarships over four years to The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The announcement was made Tuesday, Nov. 19, during a ceremony held at the MSMS campus in Columbus, where 117 students in the graduating Class of 2025 were presented with tuition scholarship certificates.

Recently, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) announced its new 2025-2027 classifications for the various sports and activities in which Mississippi schools will participate beginning in August 2025.
