In preparation for Election Day, Lawndale Elementary School students geared up for their very own vote. On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Lawndale Elementary voted to elect its first ever mascot.

University of Mississippi officials cut the ribbon on the university’s largest academic building ever Thursday (Nov. 7) after completing construction on the 202,000 square-foot building earlier this fall.

The Jim and Thomas Duff Center for Science and Technology Innovation includes four floors of laboratories, lecture halls and offices dedicated to supporting students in science, technology, engineering and math-related endeavors.

The 41st Army Band will feature an hour of patriotic music beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the program—which features remarks by MSU President Mark E. Keenum—and play during the ceremony that honors veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice. The band is the musical ambassador for Mississippi Army National Guard.

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), a member of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute (OECI), will soon be operating a new medium-size remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in the Gulf of Mexico. The Medallion, an annual publication of The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Honors College, has earned first place in the National Collegiate Honors Council’s (NCHC) Faculty/Administrator/Student Print Newsletter category of its Honors Publications Contest.

On October 12, high school marching bands from across the state competed at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and Mississippi Bandmasters Association (MBA) Regional State Marching Evaluation. This year’s regional evaluations took place at five Mississippi high schools: Region I at Tupelo, Region II at Grenada, Region II at Neshoba Central, Region IV at Pearl, and Region V at Gulfport.  

Seniors in the Lee County School District had the fantastic opportunity to explore diverse career paths, from colleges and universities to local businesses, first responders, military recruiters, and many others today (Oct 16, 2024). This is the event’s third year, hosted at the Lee County Career and Technical Education Center (CTE), and it has proven to be a tremendous success.

This weekend, students from Union County Schools are excited to present their Fall musical at Magnolia Theatre in New Albany. “High School Musical on Stage!” is based on the 2006 Disney Channel movie, and the storyline of this beloved musical follows Troy, Gabriella, and other students of the fictional East High Wildcats.
