As the year comes to an end, we tend to take a sentimental look at the past and look forward to the bright future of a new year, and that is exactly what the New Year’s Eve Celebration in Downtown Laurel is based upon. The city pays tribute to its roots in the Pine Belt and celebrates the new decade in dazzling fashion. Downtown Countdown to 2020 offers something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

The Celebration pays tribute to the Roaring 1920s in a Gatsby themed gala affair. Everyone is encouraged to come out and “Party like it’s 2020!” Everyone is invited to experience the inaugural lighting of the seven-foot rhinestone pine cone that will be suspended from the historic First National Bank at the corner of North Magnolia and Main Street! The pine cone pays tribute to the city’s historic roots as one of the leaders in the lumber industry as Laurel became the “Yellow Pine Capital” of the world in the 1920s. This sparkling, dazzling display will pay homage to the community’s history and the promising future and growth that is to come.

The festivities start at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m. There will be activities, music, and DJ to get the party started. At 8:00 p.m., there be a fireworks show and a balloon drop for the little ones to enjoy.
The adults celebrate from 8:00 p.m. till after midnight. On Oak Street, North Magnolia Streets, and Main street, there will be food and beer vendors, lots of great music, and so much more. At the stroke of midnight, there will be a celebratory toasting service as the countdown begins to 2020. When the new year begins, the inaugural lighting of the sparkling Pine Cone will take place in Downtown Laurel. This is a part of history that you don’t want to miss out on. This historic event will be accompanied by more fireworks and more wishes for an even brighter future for the “City Beautiful.”

If you’re really wanting to ring in the new year in style, there are a limited number of tickets for purchase to the VIP Adult Celebration. You’ll really feel like you’ve stepped back in time at this very chic and festive Roaring 1920s Great Gatsby themed Celebration. The VIP Celebration will get you “roaring in the 20s” with VIP treatment all night long. There will be exclusive seating, hors d’oeuvres, private bar access, a cigar bar, casino games, private restrooms, and protection from the elements all night long. Information about ticket purchases to the 300 Central Avenue VIP Tent can be purchased on the Main Street website at www.laurelmainstreet.com. More information about the festivities and celebrations for the evening can be found there as well.

Everyone is invited to come to this very special inaugural event in Laurel’s history. It is definitely an event that you do not want to miss. Come dressed to the nines in your Roaring 1920s fashion or whatever style you like, but this is sure to be an occasion that is to be remembered for many years to come. Celebrate the dawning of a new decade in style at the Downtown Countdown 2020 in Downtown Laurel.
