Cross your fingers and hold your breath because it looks like spring may have actually “sprung” here in Mississippi.
Of course, temperatures are a little “temperamental” right now, and the Magnolia State is still apt to have some pretty cool nights. But if the beautiful blossoms on the various fruit trees in the orchards and yards around the state are any indication, winter might just be behind us.
In fact, up here in the northeastern corner of the state, the peach blossoms at Cherry Creek Orchards in Pontotoc are so stunning this year that people have inundated the orchard with inquiries and phone calls about taking pictures of the gorgeous peach trees.
Consequently, the good folks at Cherry Creek are opening the orchard to visitors this weekend so that everyone can get a glimpse at the beauty of these springtime blossoms. It’s the perfect spot to come and take family photos, engagement pictures, or even just some candid shots of the flowery trees themselves.
For those who decide to take a trip to the orchard, located at 4660 Highway 345 in Pontotoc, the owners cordially ask you to abide by a few simple rules.
First of all, they ask that you please park in the front portion of the business near the building. Then, walk into the orchard (instead of driving through) since recent rains will make it a muddy mess for visiting vehicles.
Also, this is a busy time for those who work at the orchard, so please be mindful to watch out for workers and farm equipment that will be in use.
Be forewarned! Cherry Creek Orchards does have some electrical fences in use, mostly located in the middle of the orchard. DO NOT TOUCH! And please be extra vigilant with your children near this fenced area.
Don’t forget! This is an orchard in full bloom, so there will be bees! If you or someone in your party is allergic to these wonderfully productive creatures, now may not be (no pun intended) the best time to visit the orchard.
And the most important rule of all: Do not pick the flowers. Those delicate, fragrant blooms are where the delicious peaches of summer will come from. Therefore, if you pick the blossoms now, you won’t be picking as many peaches later on.
Truly, these beautiful blossoms are the bread and butter of Cherry Creek Orchards. Please remember to treat these gorgeous flowers with love and respect.
While you’re at it, take the time to explain to your children the amazing process of growing fruit. It’s the perfect spot for a great, lifetime learning experience. So, bring them back later on to complete the lesson with some ripe, luscious peaches.
Before you leave or when you get back home, you might want to consider donating to the orchard for their amazing (and free) gift of hospitality.
Finally, here on the thread of this post, we would love for you to tag Our Mississippi Home and share some of your pictures taken this weekend amid the springtime blossoms at Cherry Creek Orchards.
