A school bus has many different nicknames to include cheese wagon, the cheese, yellow dog, and more, but at Resurrection Catholic School in Pascagoula, it is referred to as a generous gift.

The Resurrection Catholic Schools in Pascagoula was delivered a brand-new school bus this month that was funded through donations made to the Eagle Legacy Foundation, an organization created to support the school and specific projects through alumni, community, business and corporate sponsorships.

Resurrection Catholic School is dedicated to producing educated, caring, responsible Christian leaders, but the school can’t do it without support of its alumni and community. The Eagle Legacy Foundation exists to provide critical funding to meet students’ needs. And since the school mascot is an eagle, the foundation utilizes as its tagline, invest in the nest.

Resurrection opened its doors in 1882 and has operated under a variety of names. Regardless of the name, the school exists to provide a nurturing environment where students reach their full potential who are prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing society.

Kristal Sisson, director of schools and principal of Resurrection High School, said the donation of the bus will provide the students with many opportunities.

“We are blessed by the generosity of the Eagle Legacy Foundation,” Mrs. Sisson said.  “Our new bus will provide us with opportunities that would not otherwise be possible, and for that, we are extremely grateful.  Our entire school family will benefit from this wonderful gift for years to come!”

The Eagle Legacy Foundation has two separate accounts to which donors may choose to support. The Eagle Nest Fund is an active pass-through account where funds are collected for short-term needs. These donors may give on behalf of a specific need or school organization that impacts the lives of the students and faculty. Other donors may choose to donate to the Endowment Fund that is for long-term projects and large capital projects.

Funds for the purchase of the bus were mostly gathered from two large donations that were turned over to the school for the purchase of the bus. The foundation said the next large project will be improvements to the school’s science laboratories.

Shelly Robertson, title, said unrestricted funds are welcome, but any donor can specify a project, club, athletic or academic items for their funds to be used.

“This kind of donation is proof that the ELF is going to use donations to benefit the school,” she said.  “We are hoping to garner more support from alumni and community leaders once they see this bus donation…a product of ELF donations.”

More information about the school and the foundation can be found here.
