MOSS POINT—A sea of pink crossed the Escatawpa River October 25 in a show of solidarity supporting breast cancer research for the annual Bras Across the River that always rounds out Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The October 2025 event was the 15th annual event hosted by Singing River Federal Credit Union that started as a goal of raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The original event was organized by SRFCU employees with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department as a joint partner. Both employees and deputies had been affected by breast cancer, and from their experiences and desires to do more, the event breathed life.

Jerica Hudson, Vice President of Growth and Community with Singing River Federal Credit Union, said the annual walk grows every year and is an important event in the City of Moss Point. It begins in the parking lot at Pelican Landing Conference Center where walkers head south on the high-rise bridge and then turn northward to return to Pelican Landing. Water stations and photo booths are stationed along the bridge while deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department maintain traffic control.
“It is now the largest Breast Cancer walk on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and continues to impress our communities with its growth each year,” Mrs. Hudson said. “We have added business sponsors and walkers—really every aspect of the event grows bigger each year.”
Fundraising begins in August with “Trucks for Tatas” where food truck vendors stage in the parking lot at all coastal SRFCU locations each week. This continues through October, and vendors donate a minimum of 10 percent of sale proceeds to the Bras Across the River cause.

SRFCU also accepts decorated bras throughout the year that are strung together to create a bra garland that stretches from the north side of the Escatawpa River to the south. These bras come in all shapes and sizes and carry messages of hope and awareness.
While a specific number of walkers is not counted, organizers estimate that several hundred people walk the bridge to raise awareness for breast cancer research; the engagement numbers are realized through other means.
“We do take a specific count, but we know it is several hundred,” Mrs. Hudson said. “In addition, even people who do not come on the day of the walk, they still support Bras Across the River by purchasing t-shirts, using pink SRFCU debit cards, and purchasing meals from our food trucks – all to help grow the funds raised.”
Final funds have not been counted, but the annual event is on track to have exceeded $25,000 this year alone, the largest amount raised in a single year.

“This walk supports the American Cancer Society along with the Singing River Hospital System Foundation,” she added. “Bras Across the River is a unique event and brings much awareness to the cause!”
