A Witchin’ Good Time: The Witches Ride of Ocean Springs Returns

There’s something magical in the autumn air of Ocean Springs, and no—it’s not just the cool breeze rolling in off the Gulf. On October 25, downtown will be filled with cackles, broomsticks, and plenty of glitter as the 8th Annual Witches Ride of Ocean Springs takes flight!

This isn’t your ordinary Halloween parade. Picture nearly 500 witches (and a few warlocks, too) cruising down Washington Avenue and Government Street on broomcycles (bikes), golf carts, and on foot—decked out in fabulous, over-the-top costumes. The sidewalks will be lined with children (and adults!) catching handfuls of candy tossed from the witches, waving, laughing, and snapping photos of the whimsical procession. And the best part? Every bit of this enchanting evening is for a wonderful cause—helping local animals in need.

    A Spell for Good

The Witches Ride first “flew” in 2018, born from the simple idea of having fun while doing good. It quickly grew into one of Ocean Springs’ most beloved traditions. In 2019, it officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and since then, the witches have raised and donated over $91,000 to local animal welfare organizations. That’s a lot of happy tails wagging thanks to this magical crew!

Beyond the ride itself, the event has expanded into a whole season of spooktacular fun. From Bingo Nights to Pub Crawls to broom-and-hat decorating parties, the witches know how to keep the good times rolling while raising money for the cause.

    Fun, Flair, and Friendly Competition

What’s a witches’ gathering without a little competition? Each year, awards are handed out for Best Costume, Best Group, Best Broom, Best Golf Cart, and Best Performance. If you think your witchy strut is the stuff of legend, this is your time to shine!

    Family-Friendly Frights

Although only registered witches (ages 18+) can officially participate in the ride, families are encouraged to join in the fun from the sidelines. Spectators are welcome—no, encouraged—to come dressed in their own Halloween best. Don’t forget a bag, because candy and treats will be flying just as fast as the witches themselves.

Children aren’t allowed on the actual parade route (even in strollers or wagons), but trust me, the view from behind the barricades is more than worth it. Watching the colorful crowd of witches sweep through historic downtown Ocean Springs feels like stepping into a scene straight from a storybook.

    Mark Your Calendar

This year’s ride kicks off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, rain or shine. The only thing that could stop it would be an act of nature or local officials calling it off (and let’s hope no mischievous spells cause that).

So dust off your pointed hats, cheer on your favorite covens, and get ready for an evening that’s equal parts spooky, silly, and heartwarming. Because when the witches of Ocean Springs take to the streets, they prove that community, creativity, and compassion for animals are the best kind of magic.
