Terri Bohannon of Hurley has been selected East Central High School (ECHS) Parent of the Year.
Bohannon has been a volunteer in the East Central School District since 2020 when her youngest child was in middle school. For the past four years she’s been a member of the PTO and served as a board member for the 2022/2023 school year, and she also volunteers at ECHS where her daughter Cassidy is a sophomore.
“I felt it was very important to be involved in every aspect of her school life. I feel it is important to know the teachers and kids my child is spending eight hours a day with. I also wanted her teachers to know I was there for anything they needed and that they could come to me with any issue about my child,” Bohannon said.
Bohannon had no idea she was even being considered for the school’s parent of the year until she received a phone call from Principal Hughey. At first she was worried something had happened with her daughter, but he was calling to congratulate her on her win.
“My response to that was, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m crying,’ because I was so incredibly honored to be chosen.”
Bohannon is humbled by the recognition and is honored to be named Parent of the Year. “It’s right up there with being named Mom, Grammy and Aunt. Just knowing that it was voted on by the teachers makes it that much more special.”
For her win, Bohannon received a plaque from the school district.
Terri Bohannon is a receptionist at The Company Salon in Pascagoula, comes from a large family and is the youngest of 10 children.
