The Jackson-George Regional Library System is excited to present its annual Summer Library Program, taking place June 9th through July 3rd, with various times and locations across all library branches. This year’s theme, “Color Our World,” celebrates imagination, creativity, and diversity through a vibrant lineup of free programs and special guests for children, teens, and adults.
Families can explore an engaging world of storytelling, music, nature, and entertainment, all designed to inspire a love of reading and lifelong learning. A full calendar of events and kickoff celebrations is available at www.jgrls.org.
“Every year, more and more children and families participate in our programs,” said Bethany Carlisle, JGRLS Youth Services Coordinator. “We are especially excited about this year’s theme because it encourages creativity, inclusiveness, and exploration through fun learning experiences. Whether you’re new to the area or a long-time library user, there’s something for everyone!”
Programs for elementary students will take place at various branches throughout June and early July, including:
- Nature’s Color with Grand Bay NERR and Pascagoula Audubon Center
- Colorful Stories with storytellers Micki Lofton and Bethany Carlisle
- Colorful Entertainment featuring juggler and comedian Wink Danenburg
- Color Our World with Music with musician Gram Rea
Program dates and times vary by location. Many events include door prize giveaways generously provided by local businesses and Friends of the Library groups.
Families are encouraged to get a library card and join in the summer reading challenge, along with weekly branch events designed for all ages.

HURLEY, MS – Lights, brushes, action! Dive into the behind-the-scenes world of theatrical transformation with the East Central Public Library’s Adult CSLP program: Stagecraft 101: Makeup for Theatre on Monday, June 3 at 4:00 PM.
Join special guest Mr. John Kremm from the Singing River Little Theatre as he shares insider tips and tricks from his decades in community theatre. Participants will get a glimpse into the purpose of stage makeup, the products commonly used and see a live demonstration of techniques used to bring characters to life under the lights.
Mr. Kremm brings over 30 years of experience in acting, directing, set design, and more. After recently relocating to Pascagoula from Wisconsin, he quickly became an active member of the local theatre scene, contributing to productions like Deadly Deal and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

Moss Point Library Invites the Community to Help Create a Tile Art Wall
MOSS POINT, MS – This summer, the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library invites the community to get creative with Tiny Tile Treasures, a collaborative art project for all ages. Families and individuals are encouraged to design their own 4×4 coaster-sized tile, which will become part of a colorful Community Art Wall displayed inside the library.

MOSS POINT, MS – This June, take a deep dive into the rich history and cultural impact of jazz with the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library’s Summer Film Feature: Jazz: A Film by Ken Burns. This acclaimed 10-part PBS documentary tells the story of jazz as one of America’s most original and influential art forms.
Screenings will be held on Saturdays—June 7, 14, and 28—starting at 10:30 AM. Each session will feature selected segments of the film, with a break for lunch intermission.

Ocean Springs Library and Singing River Little Theatre Present: Night of the Mystic Moon – An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS – Step into the mysterious world of master storyteller Edgar Allan Poe during Night of the Mystic Moon, a special literary event hosted by the Ocean Springs Municipal Library in partnership with the Singing River Little Theatre. The event will take place Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center, located at 1600 Government Street, Ocean Springs.
Attendees will enjoy an evening filled with theatrical flair, literary appreciation, and gothic charm, including:

Ocean Springs Library Invites Public to Explore the Flavors and History of Indian Cuisine
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library, in partnership with the MSU Jackson County Extension Service, invites the public to experience “Voyage on a Plate: The Flavor and History of Indian Cuisine” on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 6:00 pm.
Led by Kimberly Gowdy, this engaging cultural program explores the spices, flavors, and culinary history of Indian cuisine and how it has influenced dishes around the globe. Attendees will enjoy samples of traditional Indian foods, and members of the Extension’s Cooking Club will present dishes that blend these iconic spices into modern recipes.
Participants will also can taste, vote, and learn more about how Indian spices have shaped global cuisine.

Pascagoula Public Library Invites Children to Explore “Color Our World” This Summer
PASCAGOULA, MS – The Pascagoula Public Library is excited to announce its 2025 Summer Library Program for elementary-aged children, themed “Color Our World.” Beginning June 12, weekly programs will take place every Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center, located at 609 Dupont Avenue, Pascagoula.
Designed to inspire imagination and celebrate reading, the series features engaging guests and vibrant activities for school-aged children. The program lineup includes:

Pardon Our Dust: Final Phase of Pascagoula Public Library Renovations Underway
PASCAGOULA, MS — The Jackson-George Regional Library System is excited to announce that renovations at the Pascagoula Public Library are nearing completion! After months of hard work, the library is in the final stages of its transformation to better serve the community with a refreshed and modernized space.
As part of this process, the Pascagoula Satellite Library officially closed on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and will remain closed until the grand reopening of the newly renovated Pascagoula Public Library.
Library patrons who need access to legal research computers are encouraged to visit either the Gautier Public Library or Moss Point Public Library during regular business hours.
“We appreciate the community’s continued patience and support as we put the finishing touches on this exciting project,” said Angela Stewart, Director. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to a brighter, more user-friendly library.”

Vancleave Public Library Offers Free Hands-On Cooking Matters® Classes for Adults
VANCLEAVE, MS – The Vancleave Public Library is partnering with Mississippi State University Extension to present Cooking Matters®, a six-week hands-on course designed to help adults prepare healthy, affordable meals for their families.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., June 25 through July 30 at the Vancleave Public Library. Each weekly session is led by trained educators and covers essential skills like reading food labels, using a knife safely, cutting up a whole chicken, and more.
Participants also receive free groceries to take home after the first four classes to practice what they’ve learned.

Vancleave, MS – The Vancleave Public Library invites families to dive into imagination and creativity with Summer Library Story Time, taking place every Thursday at 10:00 AM beginning June 5th through July 10th.
This engaging six-week series is perfect for children and families looking to explore new themes each week through stories, activities, and early literacy fun. Each session is designed to celebrate creativity while fostering a love of reading and learning.

Vancleave, MS – The Vancleave Public Library is thrilled to announce two special showings of its Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, featuring the classic whodunit favorite, “Clue”. The thrilling live-action performances will take place on Friday, June 21st and Friday, June 28th. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with the show starting promptly at 5:00 p.m. Guests are reminded that no admittance will be allowed after 5:00 p.m.
Presented by the Friends of the Vancleave Public Library, this interactive evening promises laughter, suspense, and audience participation as guests work to solve the mystery. A twist ending awaits on June 28th for those who return for the encore performance!
Tickets are $15 per person, available in advance only by cash or check at the Vancleave Public Library. No tickets will be sold at the door, and seating is limited, so early purchase is strongly encouraged.
