A dozen local children will soon sleep more soundly thanks to a collaborative effort between Sparklight® and the Jackson County chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). During a volunteer event held July 18 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, 30 Sparklight associates and family members worked alongside SHP volunteers to build beds for children who previously didn’t have one of their own.
The ’Sparklight Bed Build Event’ marks the first corporate bed build for SHP’s Jackson County chapter, which opened in Pascagoula earlier this year with a simple yet powerful mission: No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.
“Sparklight cares deeply about the well-being of families in our community,” said Charlie Oakes, Sparklight Senior Regional Director, Gulf Coast. “Every child deserves the comfort and security of their own bed. Partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build beds for kids right here in Jackson County is incredibly meaningful to our team. We’re proud to work alongside our neighbors in this important initiative.”
Sparklight donated all supplies for the build and provided paid time off for employees to participate through its ‘Angel Day’ volunteer program.
For Ed Noles, Chapter President of Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Jackson County, Sparklight’s support was heartfelt and inspiring.
“When I shared our mission at a recent community event, Sparklight was the first to step up, eagerly offering their support,” said Noles. “Their kindness and willingness to serve made this build possible. This effort goes beyond lumber and nails — it represents dignity, comfort and security for kids who need it most.”
Volunteers assembled and branded 12 twin-size beds during the three-hour event, with each set to be delivered complete with a mattress, pillows and bedding. The beds will go to families in need identified through local referrals, schools and social-service organizations.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit with more than 300 chapters across the U.S., each focused on addressing bed insecurity for children. Since launching in January, the Jackson County chapter has been steadily growing its impact.
