No other team in the “Southern Six’ has played more region games so far this season than St. Stanislaus. And so far, it’s been a pretty successful run for the Rock-A-Chaws.
St. Stanislaus took an 18-7 road win over Jefferson Davis County Thursday night, and in so doing moved to 4-1 in league play. The same two teams will meet again in Bay St. Louis Friday night.
The Rocks tallied 10 runs in the second inning Thursday night to take complete command against the Jaguars. All 25 runs in the contest were scored between the second and fifth innings, and after a scoreless sixth the game was called.
Chesley Rhodes belted a grand slam for SSC in that eventful second stanza. His four RBIs were a game-high. Ole Miss signee collected two doubles in the win and also drove in a run, while freshman Wiley Mossy also had two doubles and he also drove in three runs. Henry Nunmaker and Hayes Henry also drove in a pair of runs each for the Rocks.
Hill Gainey, one of a trio of St. Stanislaus pitchers, picked up the win.

The win ended a brief two-game losing streak for the Rocks, which included a loss to Vancleave over the weekend as well as their lone defeat in region play as SSC fell to Seminary 7-2 two days prior to the loss to VHS on Saturday.
In that game, SSC managed only three hits, including a double by Hugh Le Masters, while Kyle Stegall drove in a run. Tate Murphy suffered the loss for the Rocks.
Before that lone league loss, St. Stanislaus began region action with three straight wins including a sweep of a two-game series over Perry Central as well as a victory over Seminary as well.
The Rocks beat PCHS 11-4 and 14-1, as Gainey homered in the opening game and Farni did the same in the 13-run win.
The SSC-JDCHS game tonight sets up a big Region 8-3A home and home series in the “Southern Six” next week when the Rocks will face St. Patrick. The Fighting Irish stand 2-3 in league play with three consecutive losses after opening region action with a two-game sweep over JDCHS. St. Patrick fell twice to West Marion, and then lost to Seminary 7-6 Tuesday night.
Carson Kilpatrick had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for SPHS in that game while Hayden Hall had a triple and Ben Rimes added a double as well. Otis Brooks took the loss with a complete game outing, striking out 10 in six-plus innings of work.
The same two teams are scheduled to meet at SPHS Friday night.
