The Class eight Class 6A prep baseball teams in the “Southern Six” are using a quartet of interleague series’ this week amongst each other to wrap up pre-region play.
The action began Monday night when Hancock traveled to D’Iberville. Play continues Tuesday night when Biloxi heads to Ocean Springs, Gulfport travels to St. Martin and Harrison Central heads to Pascagoula.

In D’Iberville Monday night, the Warriors broke open a 1-1 tie with a two-run single by Trey Jaquet in the bottom of the sixth stanza to pull out the win.
The Warriors took the lead on a passed ball in the fourth frame to go up 1-0 as Aiden Seymour crossed the plate. But the Hawks responded in the top of the sixth with a run-scoring single by Max Garrett that scored Dylan Petersen to knot things up at 1-1 in the top of the sixth setting the stage for Jaquet’s game-winning heroics in the bottom half of the inning.
D’Ibervile moved to 7-9 overall on the year, as Dennis Krabbe picked up the pitching win in relief of Eli Page. The Warriors will travel to Gulfport Friday night.
The win snapped a brief two-game losing streak for DHS, as the Warriors fell to Smith’s Station (Ala.) Friday night at MGM Park in Battle at the Beach play and dropped a game to Stone on Saturday at home.
Sean Ostheimer went the distance for Hancock, striking out seven and scattering three hits in a gallant effort that resulted in a tough-luck loss.
    Hancock hosts Ocean Springs Friday.

Hancock has now lost two straight games after an 11-2 loss to Vancleave on Saturday. In that game, Garrett homered for the second straight contest for Hancock, while Tanner Ladner also added a home run for the Hawks. Peyton DeWitt led HHS with three hits, while Jeffery Hopgood chipped in two hits and an RBI.
Prior to that, the Hawks swept a home-and-home series with Long Beach last week, winning 9-7 at LBHS on Tuesday and then 9-8 at home in the Kiln on Friday.
In game one, Garrett smashed a two-run home run for the Hawks in the winning effort while Ostheimer led Hanckock’s 10-hit attack with a game-high three hits and he also drove in a pair of runs. Ladner also had two hits and two RBIs and drove in a run. Jaxson Knight added a run-scoring double as well.
Garrett picked up the win in relief of Ostheimer.
In Class 6A, both Region 8-6A and Region 7-6A will see the four teams in that league face the same opponent three times in the same week on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday beginning next week to finish with a nine-game region slate.
Region 8-6A is comprised of Gulfport, Biloxi, Hancock and Harrison central, while Region 7-6A consists of Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin and D’Iberville.
