Mississippi State University’s premier a cappella group is advancing to the national semifinals after securing second place in a prestigious collegiate a cappella competition.

The Trebulldawgs recently competed against top groups from universities at the Varsity Vocals International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella at Pearl River Community College. Earning a second-place finish, the group now competes in the national semifinals, set for this Saturday [March 8] in Durham, North Carolina.

A student-led group of vocalists, the Trebulldawgs represents a variety of majors across disciplines at MSU. Led by senior music education major Adonijah Mpinga, this is the first time MSU has progressed to the semifinals, where the singers will compete with teams from Belmont University, Florida State University, University of Georgia and University of South Carolina. Winners will advance to the national finals in New York City.

“This remarkable achievement is a significant honor for the Trebulldawgs,” said Nicholaus Cummins, assistant professor and director of choral activities. “The group’s success showcases the talent and dedication of our student-musicians.”

MSU’s College of Education, home of the Department of Music, also includes four additional academic departments, a division of education, one research unit and numerous service units. Learn more at www.educ.msstate.edu.
