Regional Libraries Closed for Memorial Day
Jackson/George County, MS _The branch libraries of the Jackson-George Regional Library System will be closed on Monday, May 26th for the Memorial Day holiday.
Book drops will be open for returning items and all online services will be available for cardholders’ renewals, holds, and e-services by visiting www.jgrls.org.
The branches will reopen Tuesday, May 27th at regular hours.
JGRLS Kicks Off 2025 Summer Library Program with “Color Our World” Events Across the Coast
Pascagoula, MS – The Jackson-George Regional Library System (JGRLS) invites families to dive into a summer of imagination and inspiration through the 2025 Summer Library Program, themed “Color Our World.” Kicking off with a free community-wide celebration on Saturday, May 31st, and continuing with engaging programs from June 9th through July 3rd, this year’s festivities highlight creativity, diversity, and learning for all ages.
🎉 Kickoff Event: Concert & Food Truck Festival – May 31st
Join us at the Ocean Springs Civic Center (3730 Bienville Blvd.) from 10 AM to 2 PM for a vibrant launch event featuring:
- Live music by local artists
- Foam party for kids (bring a towel or change of clothes!)
- Delicious food trucks
- Games, prizes, and hands-on activities with community vendors
“This event is a great way to bring our community together,” said Jim Thompson, Ocean Springs Municipal Library Manager. “We’re kicking off the summer with energy and fun, encouraging families to explore the creativity and diversity our libraries offer.”

All JGRLS branches will host a variety of themed programs for children, teens, and adults throughout the summer. Events feature:

East Central Public Library Hosts Unique Upcycling Workshop: Turning Forgotten Books into Treasure
Hurley, MS _ The East Central Public Library invites community members of all ages to experience the beauty of transformation at a special workshop on Wednesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m.
Titled “One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure,” this creative session is led by Ms. Rebecca and focuses on turning discarded or forgotten books into stunning decorative art pieces. What was once considered “trash” will be given new life through hands-on creativity and storytelling.
Participants will learn how to upcycle old books, breathing imagination into pages that may have once sat collecting dust. Ina Thompson Moss Point Library Launches Healthy Heart Ambassador Program
MOSS POINT, MS __ The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library is excited to announce the launch of the Healthy Heart Ambassador Program, a self-monitored blood pressure and nutrition education program designed to support adults with hypertension in managing and lowering their blood pressure.
This CDC-recognized program is facilitated by a trained coach and aims to provide valuable tools and support for participants in managing their heart health. The program encourages participants to track their blood pressure readings and share them with their healthcare providers to help inform lifestyle changes.

- June 23rd at 1:30 PM
Eligibility:
- Individuals aged 18 or older
- Hypertension diagnosis or on antihypertensive medication

This exciting addition will offer a space for community members to exchange items they no longer need for those they do, providing resources for inventors, artists, cooks, musicians, and DIY enthusiasts. From cake pans to tools, instruments to crafting and painting supplies, the Library of Things aims to fulfill immediate and short-term needs for all kinds of creative and practical projects. The process is simple: bring something tangible that could be useful to someone else and swap it for something you need. This initiative, sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean Springs Municipal Library, encourages sustainability and community sharing while helping everyone access the tools they need to create.

Puzzle Competition
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ There is a puzzle competition at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library located at 525 Dewey Ave on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. There’s no need to pay for admission. Patrons will be divided into four groups and given a specific amount of time to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Pardon Our Dust: Final Phase of Pascagoula Public Library Renovations Underway
PASCAGOULA, MS — The Jackson-George Regional Library System is excited to announce that renovations at the Pascagoula Public Library are nearing completion! After months of hard work, the library is in the final stages of its transformation to better serve the community with a refreshed and modernized space.
As part of this process, the Pascagoula Satellite Library officially closed on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and will remain closed until the grand reopening of the newly renovated Pascagoula Public Library.
Library patrons who need access to legal research computers are encouraged to visit either the Gautier Public Library or Moss Point Public Library during regular business hours.
“We appreciate the community’s continued patience and support as we put the finishing touches on this exciting project,” said Angela Stewart, Director. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to a brighter, more user-friendly library.”

St. Martin Public Library Invites You to “Color Our World” with Tiny Art Show
St. Martin, MS –Let your creativity shine at the St. Martin Public Library with the launch of its Tiny Art Show, beginning May 1st! Patrons ages 10 and up are invited to pick up a mini art kit from the library (while supplies last) and create a tiny masterpiece inspired by the theme “Color Our World”—or something completely from your imagination.
Completed artwork must be returned by May 31st to be included in the Tiny Art Exhibit, which will be displayed throughout June as part of the Summer Library Program.
This program is a unique opportunity for community members to express themselves artistically and take part in a fun, colorful exhibition for all to enjoy. Finished pieces will be returned to artists following the conclusion of the exhibit.

Join us for the Youth Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m. This mandatory session will walk you through expectations, responsibilities, and how to sign up for your summer shifts.
