Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs Hosts Prom Closet

On Saturday, February 19, Biloxi-Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary will be hosting their annual Prom Closet event. The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at In the Zone St. Martin. Prom Closet provides gently used long and short formal dresses, accessories, and shoes to young ladies at an exceptionally low cost–all items being $15 or less. Attendees may also enter into free raffles to win hair services, manicures, and gift certificates to help make their prom experience complete.

Prom Closet is open to all young ladies as well as the general public. The doors will open promptly at 10 a.m. and dressing rooms will be provided. In years past, the organization helped over 250 girls find their perfect dress. They will accept cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express as forms of payment. According to the JABOS website, “Shoppers and their families are showered with one-on-one attention from members to find the perfect attire that makes them feel beautiful both inside and out. We use these events to raise self-esteem and provide young ladies the opportunity to create lifelong memories.”

Emily Baker, JABOS member and board member worked the event last year. “I love that we don’t just stop with the dress. I worked the accessories table and after a dress was picked, I helped them go for the perfect earrings, necklaces, shoes, and purses. Offering accessories is another level I don’t think the girls expect to see,” said Baker. “JABOS allows an opportunity for young ladies to show up to prom feeling amazing without ever glancing at a price tag.”

Members of the community can also donate. Formal dresses, shoes, or accessories may be dropped off to any JABOS member or one of these locations: Handy Lock Storage in Biloxi or Ocean Springs, or DeJaVu Consignment Boutique. The deadline to donate is Thursday, February 15th.

The mission of the Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs is to improve the community by meeting the physical, medical, financial, and educational needs of the children, youth, and families in their service area. JABOS helps communities of Biloxi, D’Iberville, St. Martin, Woolmarket, Ocean Springs, and Vancleave, or otherwise the areas that lie within the East Harrison County and West Jackson Counties. Junior Auxiliary provides its charitable services without regard to race or ethnic background, which are beneficial to the general public, with particular emphasis on children, and to cooperate with other organizations performing similar services. The primary focus of their programs is school aged children ages 5-18.

For questions about the event reach out via the JABOS Facebook page or email [email protected]. In the Zone is located at 7312 South Tucker Road, St. Martin.
