Regional Libraries Closed for Mardi Gras
JACKSON AND GEORGE COUNTIES, MS – The branch libraries of the Jackson-George Regional Library System will be closed on Tuesday, March 4th for the Mardi Gras holiday.
Book drops will be open for returning items and all online services will be available for cardholders’ renewals, holds, and e-services by visiting www.jgrls.org.
The branches will reopen the following Wednesday, March 5th at regular hours.

Lucedale-George County Public Library Hosts Presentation and Book Signing with Local Author Juanita Green Hollinghead
LUCEDALE, MS __ The Lucedale-George County Public Library invites you to a Friends-sponsored presentation and book signing on Saturday, March 8, 2025, with local author Juanita Green Hollinghead. Join us at 10:00 AM for a fascinating presentation on her book “Beyond the Green Widow: Consequences of the Piney Woods Creek Murders of 1921”.
Juanita Green Hollinghead, the youngest grandchild of U.S. Treasury Special Agent Jacob “Jake” Francis Green, will share the story of her grandfather’s tragic murder during the Prohibition era while attempting to shut down an illegal moonshine still in Leakesville and Richton, Mississippi. Her quest to uncover the truth about the Prohibition period has led her to explore the deep-rooted impact of this historical event on her family’s legacy.
Following the presentation, Juanita will host a book signing from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Ina Thompson Moss Point Library Presents “Acting in March” Double Feature
MOSS POINT, MS __ The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library invites movie lovers to enjoy a special Double Feature on Saturday, March 8, 2025, starting at 10:30 AM! This exciting event will showcase two fantastic family dramas, each with a unique perspective on life, family, and the power of acting.
The first movie, “Humor Me” (2017), is a comedy starring Elliott Gould, Jemaine Clement, Annie Potts, and Bebe Neuwirth. It follows the story of a down-on-his-luck playwright whose life takes a positive turn when he becomes involved with a local community theatre group.
The second movie, “Uproar” (2023), is a coming-of-age drama starring Minnie Driver, James Rolleston, Julian Dennison, and Rhys Darby. The film tells the story of a young man navigating family expectations and finding himself through the transformative experience of acting.

Ina Thompson Moss Point Library Launches Healthy Heart Ambassador Program
MOSS POINT, MS __ The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library is excited to announce the launch of the Healthy Heart Ambassador Program, a self-monitored blood pressure and nutrition education program designed to support adults with hypertension in managing and lowering their blood pressure.
This CDC-recognized program is facilitated by a trained coach and aims to provide valuable tools and support for participants in managing their heart health. The program encourages participants to track their blood pressure readings and share them with their healthcare providers to help inform lifestyle changes.

“Through the Lens: Copiah County Truck Farming” Exhibit
Ocean Springs, MS _The Ocean Springs Municipal Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Ocean Springs Public Library, is proud to present “Through the Lens: Copiah County Truck Farming”, a captivating photographic exhibit that delves into the rich agricultural history of Mississippi. The exhibit will be on display from Monday, April 7, to Wednesday, April 30.
Produced by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, this exhibit showcases the work of Luther M. Hamilton (1869-1944), a Crystal Springs native whose striking photographs capture the early 1900s era of truck farming. Visitors will be transported back in time through powerful images of workers tending cabbage and tomato fields, trucks lined up at the train depot to deliver fresh produce, and everyday life in downtown Crystal Springs.
This free exhibit offers a unique opportunity for history enthusiasts, photography lovers, and community members to explore the legacy of Mississippi’s agricultural roots. Teen Science Café: Prescribed Burns for Land Management
Ocean Springs, MS _The Ocean Springs Public Library is excited to announce a unique and educational opportunity for local teens: the Teen Science Café featuring Prescribed Burns for Land Management. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Senior Center, located directly behind the Ocean Springs Library.
The evening will feature Dr. Jonathan Pitchford, Stewardship Coordinator at Grand Bay Estuarine Research Reserve, who will discuss the science behind wildland fires and fire ecology. Dr. Pitchford will give an in-depth presentation on the role of prescribed burns in land management before demonstrating the process of a controlled burn.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for pizza and socializing, sponsored by Marco’s Pizza. The presentation will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. The event is designed for teens and is free to attend, with pizza and refreshments provided.
This event offers an incredible learning experience about the ecological benefits of fire management and its importance in preserving natural habitats.

Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library is excited to announce a Fun with Food Class for 4th-6th graders from March 17th to March 19th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This interactive and educational event, sponsored by Mississippi State University Extension Services, offers an exciting opportunity for children to learn about cooking, nutrition, and life skills in a fun and engaging environment.
What to Expect: Participants will explore the art of cooking while developing important skills such as math, science, reading, and time management. The activities are designed to teach children how food is grown, the importance of kitchen safety, and how to follow recipes while measuring ingredients. In addition to cooking, the class will include physical activities and games to keep participants engaged and active.

St. Martin Public Library Hosts Family Sticker Art Program on March 13
St. Martin, MS – The St. Martin Public Library invites families to get creative at its Family Art Form: Sticker Edition program on Thursday, March 13, at 4:00 PM. This unique and engaging event allows participants to create beautiful works of art using stickers—just like paint-by-numbers, but with a fun, hands-on twist!
The program is designed for ages 6 and up, making it a great activity for families to enjoy together. Sticker art sheets will be available for both children and adults, ensuring that everyone can take part in the creative fun.

St. Martin, MS – On March 17, 2025, the St. Martin Public Library will host a Murder Mystery Potluck Dinner: St. Patrick’s Day Edition at 4:00 PM. This festive and interactive event will challenge participants to solve a thrilling mystery centered around a devastating fire at the 4-Leaf Clover Pub and the disappearance of its gold coins. Could a rival pub owner, a disgruntled employee, or an unlucky patron be behind the scandal?
