Spring is here, and so is an exciting lineup of events at the Jackson-George Regional Library System! Whether you’re looking for engaging story times, hands-on workshops, or creative activities, we have something for all ages to enjoy this April.

We’re also excited to share that renovations at the Pascagoula Public Library are nearing completion! As part of this progress, the satellite library will close on April 1, 2025. We appreciate your patience and look forward to announcing details about our grand reopening soon!

HURLEY, MS – Let’s go fly a kite! Join the East Central Public Library on April 21st at 4:00 PM for a fun-filled DIY kite-making workshop led by Ms. Rebecca. Participants will learn how to build their own kites while discovering the science behind how they fly. Gautier Public Library Hosts April Storytimes for Preschoolers

Gautier, MS – The Gautier Public Library is excited to announce a fun and educational Storytime program every Thursday at 10 AM throughout the month of April! Each week, young children will enjoy picture books, songs, and interactive activities based on engaging themes. LUCEDALE, MS __ Curious about how El Niño and La Niña impact our weather? Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. for an enlightening discussion with meteorology expert Kristen Sarowski as she breaks down the science behind these climate patterns.

Sarowski will explain how La Niña and El Niño influence ocean temperatures, their potential impact on the 2025 hurricane season, and what these weather shifts mean for our region. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how to stay prepared.

Ina Thompson Moss Point Library to Host April Storytimes for All Ages

Moss Point, MS – The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library is excited to announce a variety of Storytimes for children throughout the month of April! With engaging books, activities, and special themes, our Storytime sessions are designed to inspire young readers and promote a love for books and learning.

MOSS POINT, MS __ Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced gardener, the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library invites you to Gardening 101, a hands-on workshop led by the Jackson County Master Gardeners. This engaging session will cover the basics of plant care from seed to bloom, providing participants with valuable knowledge to grow and maintain a healthy garden.

The workshop will take place on April 1 from 5 PM to 6 PM at the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library. Participants are encouraged to wear old clothing, as this class will involve working with soil. The event is open to ages 18 and up, and seating is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Ina Thompson Moss Point Library Hosts April Double Feature Film Screening

Moss Point, MS – The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library is excited to present a Double Feature Film Screening on Saturday, April 5, 2025, starting at 10:30 AM. The event will showcase two films celebrating the beauty of flowers—“Dare to Be Wild” (2015) and “The Pollinators” (2019).

The first film, “Dare to Be Wild”, is a dramatic story based on the true events of Mary Reynolds, a young Irish woman who enters the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show. Starring Alex MacQueen, Christine Marzano, Tom Hughes, and Emma Greenwell, this inspiring film highlights the determination and creativity of one woman’s journey in the world of floral design.

Following the drama, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of pollination with the documentary “The Pollinators” (2019). This eye-opening film explores the critical role pollinators play in our ecosystem, shedding light on the urgent need to protect these vital species for the future of agriculture and bio-diversity.

Boxed Beauty: Shadowbox Creations at Ina Thompson Moss Point Library

Ocean Springs, MS _The Ocean Springs Municipal Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Ocean Springs Public Library, is proud to present “Through the Lens: Copiah County Truck Farming”, a captivating photographic exhibit that delves into the rich agricultural history of Mississippi. The exhibit will be on display from Monday, April 7, to Wednesday, April 30.

Produced by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, this exhibit showcases the work of Luther M. Hamilton (1869-1944), a Crystal Springs native whose striking photographs capture the early 1900s era of truck farming. Visitors will be transported back in time through powerful images of workers tending cabbage and tomato fields, trucks lined up at the train depot to deliver fresh produce, and everyday life in downtown Crystal Springs.

This free exhibit offers a unique opportunity for history enthusiasts, photography lovers, and community members to explore the legacy of Mississippi’s agricultural roots. We invite the public to visit the Ocean Springs Municipal Library and experience this remarkable glimpse into the past.

Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library is excited to announce the launch of its Community Garden this April! Using a small green space outside the library, this initiative aims to provide educational opportunities and hands-on programming focused on gardening, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

The library’s Community Garden will serve as a learning hub, offering the community a space to explore gardening techniques, plant care, and sustainable practices. The project seeks to engage local residents, organizations, and volunteers who are passionate about gardening and education.

“We’re thrilled to bring this initiative to the Ocean Springs community,” said Ocean Springs branch manager, Jim Thompson. “The Community Garden will not only beautify our space but also serve as a hands-on educational tool for children and adults alike. We welcome anyone who wants to get involved and help us grow this project.”

The library is currently seeking volunteers and community partners to assist with planting, maintenance, and sharing their gardening expertise. Those interested in contributing to this initiative can reach out to the library for more information.

Ocean Springs, MS – Starting in April, the Ocean Springs Municipal Library will introduce a new initiative—The Library of Things—to complement its existing seed, tea, and spice libraries. This exciting addition will offer a space for community members to exchange items they no longer need for those they do, providing resources for inventors, artists, cooks, musicians, and DIY enthusiasts. From cake pans to tools, instruments to crafting and painting supplies, the Library of Things aims to fulfill immediate and short-term needs for all kinds of creative and practical projects. The process is simple: bring something tangible that could be useful to someone else and swap it for something you need. This initiative, sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean Springs Municipal Library, encourages sustainability and community sharing while helping everyone access the tools they need to create.

Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library invites the community to a special Sign Language for Beginners class on Saturday, April 5th, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Led by Erica Ables, an instructor from the de l’Epee Deaf Center, this session will provide participants with a solid introduction to the basics of American Sign Language (ASL).

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS – Ever wondered what edible plants might be growing in your own backyard? Join Naturalist and Wetland Ecologist Mark W. LaSalle at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library for Urban Foraging 101 on Friday, April 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.

In this engaging presentation, Dr. LaSalle will share expert insights on identifying wild edible plants in urban environments. After the presentation, participants will take a guided visit to the Children’s Park to spot and discuss wild-growing edible plants in their natural setting.

These screenings, conducted by licensed practitioners, provide families with valuable insights into their child’s developmental milestones and help identify any potential concerns, including early signs of autism. It sounds like a great opportunity to meet other kids who share your interests and have some fun solving mysteries together.

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Ocean Springs Municipal Library Cinema Club First Saturdays, 1:00-2:00. Similar to our Book Club, the Ocean Springs Municipal Library’s Cinema Club will gather each month to discuss a selected movie. Each month, a different movie will be assigned for the group to watch. OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library Gaming Club meets every third Saturday of the month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The club features tabletop games, video game tournaments, card games, and more. You can bring your own games or use the ones provided. OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library has collaborated with the Ocean Springs Senior Center to organize a monthly Memory Cafe for seniors. The cafe will take place on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 AM, and attendees will meet at the Senior Center located at 515 Washington Ave. During the cafe, participants will discuss various topics, including popular dates, events, and personal memories. To make the event more fun, a trivia round with prizes will be held at the end of each session.
