With a goal of constructing a new building to provide the more than 1,700 student veterans, service members and their families with a home of their own on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus that is commensurate with the honor of which they are so deserving, the USM Foundation announces a $2.4 million fundraising initiative to make the facility a reality.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Jefferson Davis Food Pantry and Professional Closet on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in front of the food pantry, located in the Eula Switzer Allied Health Building. Morgan Rich, a student at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus, is one of 10 students in the nation selected to receive a Pearson Scholarship for Higher Education, a $5,000 award.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students Shanna Cramer and Lauren Powell were awarded the 2019 Merit Health – Biloxi Board of Trustees Full-Tuition Scholarship. Each student will have their tuition covered for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Nine students from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus have been named Leaders of Promise Scholars through Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). The students will receive $1,000 scholarships.

The new school year at Resurrection Catholic Middle/High School began with a new principal. Kristal Sisson was appointed by Bishop Louis Kihneman in May to fill the role vacated by Noah Hamilton who left to pursue another opportunity.
