    Cherry Creek Orchards’ Peach Festival

“Let’s go to Cherry Creek Orchards and get some fresh peaches.”

Those were the first words out of my husband’s mouth when he woke up this past Saturday. And even though I had no clue what prompted him to think about fresh peaches, I was in total and immediate agreement with his suggestion. So much so, that I quickly began getting ready for our peach-purchasing adventure.

Now, up here in our corner of North Mississippi, just about everybody knows about Cherry Creek Orchards, located near Pontotoc. This orchard is the go-to source for lots of fresh, seasonal produce, including peaches, plums, nectarines, tomatoes, corn, peas, butter beans, okra, blackberries, and figs. (Oh, and don’t forget the local honey products that are also available.)

But the Lucius family had only one official item on our shopping last Saturday. So, after we took the scenic route to Cherry Creek, we entered the orchard’s onsite store and quickly headed to the display of peaches. Almost immediately, my husband picked out a huge box and carried it to the counter.

I said, “Hold on! There’s no way we can eat that many.”

He just laughed and kept on shopping. We ended up buying those peaches, along with some plums, tomatoes, and peas.

Then, before we could get the car cranked and headed back out on the highway toward home, my sweet husband had already grabbed a peach, rubbed it on his T-shirt for good measure, and took a big bite.

With peach juice trickling down the corner of his mouth, he laughed again and assured me that we would have no trouble eating the whole box.

He was right! As of Wednesday morning, there were only four peaches left, and we discussed going back to the orchard this weekend.

You should join us there this Saturday, July 20, for Cherry Creek Orchards’ Peach Festival ’24.

Because if you have never had a fresh peach from Cherry Creek, this is your chance to taste some of Mississippi’s finest peaches, while having a fun-filled day with the family.

The festival will offer orchard tours, food truck vendors, arts and crafts booths, inflatables for the kids, and live music throughout the day. The fun starts at 9 a.m., with the last musical group performing from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Plus, parking for the event is only $5.

Best of all, the Orchard’s store will be open for your shopping pleasure. And let me tell you, the staff of this locally owned and operated orchard will make you feel like family. It is truly a shopping experience you won’t forget.

So. make plans now to pack up your lawn chairs and take a road trip to Cherry Creek Orchards this Saturday. Go ahead and program the address (4660 Highway 345, Pontotoc, Mississippi, 38863) into your car’s GPS, or go to the official Cherry Creek Orchards Facebook for more details on Peach Festival ’24, including the day’s lineup of live musicians.

It’s sure to be a peachy day at Cherry Creek Orchards. I hope to see you there!
