Best ways to beat the heat in Jackson

Everybody knows that the Mississippi heat is like no other—especially in the capital city. Here are six ways to beat the heat in Jackson this summer:

    1. The new Malco in Renaissance

Movie theaters are finally back! Walking into a cool air-conditioned theater is the perfect way to breathe after getting out of the blistering summer heat. The new Malco in Renaissance mall did not have long to be enjoyed before the pandemic hit. However, as the pandemic slows down and vaccinations continue to roll out, this summer is a great time to get out of the heat with some reclined seats and enjoy that movie theater experience that we have missed for so long.

    2. Find a swimming hole

A great way to beat the heat in Jackson is finding a swimming hole. One that I thoroughly enjoyed growing up was the River Hills pool off of Ridgewood Road. The River Hills pool is the perfect way to cool off and have some fun in the blistering hot sun. No matter the pool, take a slide or take a dive and you’re sure to have fun this summer.

    3. Sno Biz

Sno Biz has been wildly popular in the Jackson-metro area for as long as I can remember. With bunches of cold, delicious flavors to choose from, you must not forget about this Jackson landmark. Enjoy a snow cone in the shade!

    4. Bop’s Frozen Custard

If you’re not feeling a snow cone, you should hit up Bop’s Frozen Custard for the best ice cream, shakes, malts, and frozen custard Jackson has to offer. Get your favorite dessert and watch them turn it upside down. Just try being hot while getting Bop’s. Trust me; it’s a perfect way to beat the heat this summer.

    5. The Museum of Natural Science

If you went to school in Jackson or anywhere near the capital city, there is a 99% chance you went on a field trip to the Museum of Natural Science. Even now, as an adult, it’s still a great place to visit! See the two-headed snake. Learn more about the Jefferson Ground Sloth. Or marvel at the dinosaur that we call an alligator snapping turtle. There’s plenty to see here. Also, it’s important to mention that this museum has some wonderful A/C.

    6. Keifer’s patio

Go to the Keifer’s patio! While it may still be outside, its shady scene that includes plenty of fans is the perfect escape. Here in one of Jackson’s most renowned dining establishments, you will not sweat a drop as you enjoy one of their chilled beverages—whether it be an ice-cold sweet tea or a pitcher of the coldest beer in the metro area. It’s impossible to be unhappy at Keifer’s.
