    It’s hard to believe it is already July! JGRLS has all the activities to keep visitors cool and entertained this month! Check out what’s happening at your local branch listed below:

    Libraries to Close for 4th of July holiday

    Pascagoula, MS __All Jackson-George Regional Library System branches will be closed Thursday, July 4th, in observance of 4th of July and reopen Friday, July 5th at regular hours.

    Book drops will be open for returning items, and all online services will be available for cardholders’ renewals, holds, and e-services. Visit www.jgrls.org.

    Family Game Day

    HURLEY, MS __ East Central Public Library FAMILY GAME DAY Saturday, July 13th Come join us for a day filled with fun activities and games at the East Central Public Library. This is an all-day event! Snacks and refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the East Central Public Library.

    Planned Flyovers: Drone Usage for Remote Pilots

    HURLEY, MS __ Join us at the East Central Public Library for a special program on drones. Chris Mackey, the lead instructor for Unmanned Systems Group, LLC, will be guiding the discussion on Saturday, July 13th at 1:30 PM. This program will provide a basic understanding of safe and legal drone operations in Mississippi, and there will be a Q&A session as time allows. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the East Central Public Library.

    East Central Public Library presents: International Chess Day Celebration!

    HURLEY, MS __ East Central Public Library presents: International Chess Day Celebration! Join us on Saturday, July 20th to experience the excitement! Challenge others to a game of chess. If you’re new to chess, we’ll gladly provide explanations of the rules and demonstrations. Feeling like regular chess is too simple? Ask Mr. William about fairy chess for some interesting rule variations. This will be an all-day event. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the East Central Library.

    Boomerang Art at the East Central Public Library

    HURLEY, MS __ Join us for Boomerang Art at the East Central Public Library on July 20th at 1pm. Unleash your creativity and beat the summer heat with an all-ages arts and crafts afternoon hosted by Ms. Leah. All supplies and refreshments will be provided.

    Virtual Page Turners Book Club

    GAUTIER, MS __ Join the Gautier Public Library’s Page Turners Book Club, which meets in person at Garden House Brew Co in Gautier at 1pm on the 4th Monday of each month. You can find more information about the club by visiting the group on Facebook. The July selection is “Rich Crazy Asians” by Kevin Kwan. Our next meeting will be on Monday, July 22.     Gautier Public Library Friends of the Library 4th Tuesday

    GAUTIER, MS __ You are invited to attend the monthly meeting of the Friends of the Library, Wednesday, July 24th at 10 am.  Join us to discuss fundraising, marketing the library, and provide feedback and suggestions on library programs and events. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends of the Gautier Library, it only costs $5 for an individual or $10 for a family. Becoming a member is a great way to support the library and stay informed about upcoming events.

    Teen Advisory Group

    GAUTIER, MS __Join the Gautier Public Library’s Teen Advisory Group every fourth Saturday at 1:00 pm! Students in grades 6 through 12 are welcome to attend these monthly meetings.     Crime Will Tell: A True Crime Club- Eps 24 – Russell Williams

    GAUTIER, MS __Join us at the Gautier Public Library for Crime Will Tell: A True Crime Club. We will be discussing a well-known true crime case or criminal, using various resources. The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 11 at 5 pm, focusing on Eps 24 – Russell Williams. The club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month. You can find a copy of the resource list on the Gautier Public Library Facebook Page, at the library, by scanning the QR Code, or by requesting it via email. Please note that this program is for adults 18 and older.

    Christmas in July Storytime

    GAUTIER, MS __ Gautier Public Library presents: Christmas in July Storytime Thursday, July 11 at 10 AM Join us for a special July Storytime with a guest appearance by Santa Claus! Santa will read a story and be available for questions and photos afterward, so don’t forget to bring your camera.

    DIY Dream Catchers!

     

    LUCEDALE, MS __ Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library to make your very own paper plate dream catcher! This DIY event will take place on Thursday, July 11th at 2 PM. While the program is mainly for youth aged 11-18, everyone is welcome to participate. The Friends of the Lucedale-George County Public Library will provide materials and refreshments.     Passport to Adventure July 2024

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Visit the Ocean Springs Municipal Library during the month of July to get a Passport to Adventure. You can get your passport stamped at various locations throughout the City of Ocean Springs for a chance to win a prize! Both kids and adults can participate and complete different adventures throughout the month. The prize winners will be announced at the Passport Party in the Library on Tuesday, July 30th at 11:00 AM.

    Bingo Bango

    Teens & Tweens Drawing Club

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Every other Wednesday, the Teens & Tweens Drawing Club meets at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library located at 525 Dewey Ave from 4:15 pm to 6:15 pm. This club is open to tweens and teens who are interested in learning how to draw, showcasing their art, and meeting new friends.     Puzzle Competition

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ There is a puzzle competition at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library located at 525 Dewey Ave on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. There’s no need to pay for admission. Patrons will be divided into four groups and given a specific amount of time to complete a jigsaw puzzle. The first team to finish wins the “Golden Innie” trophy made by our 3D printer.     Junior Mystery Club

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ If you’re a junior who loves to solve mysteries and think outside the box, Ocean Springs Municipal Library’s Junior Mystery Club might be perfect for you! The club meets every other Thursday from 5:00-6:00, and they have meetings scheduled throughout the year, including May 2nd, May 16th, May 30th, and many more. It sounds like a great opportunity to meet other kids who share your interests and have some fun solving mysteries together.

    Cinema Club

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Ocean Springs Municipal Library Cinema Club First Saturdays, 1:00-2:00. Similar to our Book Club, the Ocean Springs Municipal Library’s Cinema Club will gather each month to discuss a selected movie. Each month, a different movie will be assigned for the group to watch. Join Andrew to delve into the dynamics of this visual art form.

    Gaming Club

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library Gaming Club meets every third Saturday of the month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The club features tabletop games, video game tournaments, card games, and more. You can bring your own games or use the ones provided.     Evening Book Club

    Adult Water Class

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Ocean Springs Municipal Library is pleased to announce its upcoming adult program – Watercolor Class. This class will be held every second Monday at 10 AM. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you are welcome to join us for this monthly art class.  Marianne, our experienced instructor, will teach a short lesson each month.     Memory Café for Seniors

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library has collaborated with the Ocean Springs Senior Center to organize a monthly Memory Cafe for seniors. The cafe will take place on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 AM, and attendees will meet at the Senior Center located at 515 Washington Ave. During the cafe, participants will discuss various topics, including popular dates, events, and personal memories. To make the event more fun, a trivia round with prizes will be held at the end of each session.

    Astronomy Meetup

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Join astrophotographer Jon Talbot for an evening of astronomy and information sharing on Saturday, July 13th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Whether you’re an amateur or a professional, with a telescope or without, everyone with an interest in learning and participating is welcome. We will meet in the library meeting room at 7:00 for a presentation and then move to the adjacent parking lot for stargazing until 8:30 pm.

    Macrossan School of Irish Dance

    Documentary Days “Mercury 13”

     

    OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Join us for a screening of the documentary “Mercury 13” at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library on Saturday, July 20th, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. The film tells the story of women who trained and tested for space flight in 1961, only to be passed over for men when it came time to select astronauts. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Ocean Springs Municipal Library.

    Shark Adventure for Kids

    Pizza Making for Kids

    Tuesday Teatime

    PASCAGOULA, MS __ The Pascagoula Public Library cordially invites you to join us every Tuesday for a delightful teatime. We offer two different teas each week for you to try and discuss.     COOKING MATTERS® for Adults with MS State Extension Service

    Vancleave, MS __ Vancleave Public Library is offering a six-week course called COOKING MATTERS® for adults. The course includes a weekly two-hour class from trained educators who will teach food preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition. Participants will learn how to use a knife, read food labels, cut up a whole chicken, and make a healthy meal. The course will take place on Thursdays from Wednesdays, June 19 – July 24, from 4 pm to 6:00 pm, at the Vancleave Public Library. Participants will receive ingredients to take home at the end of the first four classes to practice preparing class recipes. Some participants have already shared their experience, and Nikki said, “This class has taught me that food can be healthy and flavorful.” Meanwhile, Cassidy said, “This course has affected my household greatly.     Baking Club!

     

    VANCLEAVE, MS __ Join the Baking Club at Vancleave Public Library on the first Wednesday of every month at 2:30 PM. Chef Dan Langley will lead the fun afternoon of baking and the library will provide all the supplies. However, due to limited supplies, pre-registration is required. This program is open to patrons aged 17 and above. For more details, please call 228-826-5857.

    Vancleave Food Truck Friday

    VANCLEAVE, MS __Vancleave Public Library invites you to join them on the fourth Friday of the month for a variety of food trucks from 11 am to 7 pm. For more information, please call 228-334-1296. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Vancleave Library.

    VANCLEAVE, MS __The Vancleave Public Library hosts a meeting of the Friends of the Vancleave Library every 3rd Thursday of the month at 5 pm. This is an opportunity to meet the new officers of the Friends of the Vancleave Library and be part of the change. Everyone is invited to join and share ideas on improving and enriching the local public library. We hope to see you there.
