PERRY COUNTY — The third annual “Back the Blue” 5D Barrel Run will be May 2 at the Perry County Multipurpose Center in Richton to help raise funds for the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
The barrel run is being organized by Circle C Arena and will have an entry fee of $50, not including the $10 processing fee.
The first show will be open from 10 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. for exhibition runs for riders, with a cost of $5 to enter.
The kiddie show officially begins at 1 p.m., with an all-ages adult and youth competition shortly after, finishing with the main event.
The event will also feature $1,000 in prize money, buckles for the winners, duffel bags and horse feed.
Hope and Ronnie Clifton, co-producers of the barrel run, said the event has been growing every year, drawing about 120 riders last year.
“The first year we were able to raise $10,000 for the sheriff’s department. Last year, we raised $20,000,” Hope Clifton said.
Event donations have helped fund Shop With a Cop, office supplies and work toward a potential canine unit.
The dress code for riders is long sleeves and cowboy hats, but participants have the option to wear the event T-shirt, which is available for $20 through April 15, or pay $5 to wear clothing outside the dress code.
Admission will be free for all spectators, and attendees are encouraged to visit the several vendors that will be opened at the run and the concession stand run by the sheriff’s office.
