What started as an Eagle Scout project to support the leukemia treatments of a family member is now in its 25th year and continuing to make a difference.
The annual Jimmy Gammill and Friends Blood Drive will be Thursday, October 1, at the YMBC in Moss Point. The drive is facilitated by the American Red Cross and designed to allow members of the community provide life-saving support for someone in need.
The original blood drive was started by Taylor Lane who, at the time, organized the event as part of his Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Project. Near and dear to his heart, his cousin, Jimmy, had been diagnosed with leukemia and was undergoing treatments at Women and Children’s Hospital in Mobile. He was only two years old when his parents received the devastating diagnosis, but thanks to his medical team and community support and prayers, today Jimmy is married to Karlie and living a perfectly normal life.
Loree Lane, grandmother to Jimmy and aunt to Taylor, has continued to hold this annual event to celebrate the recovery of her grandson and to support other families in need.
