Incoming seniors Gianna Pierce of Ocean Springs High School, William Rasberry of George County High School, and Sarah Jean Scearce of Resurrection High School represented Singing River Electric at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour of Washington, D.C. on June 19-24.
The students and their fellow Mississippi attendees spent six days in our nation’s capital with others representing electric cooperatives across the country. While in Washington, D.C., they visited national landmarks including the World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, and many other monuments and museums. They also had a special meeting with Mississippi’s U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith.
“It is a privilege for Singing River Electric to make an investment in these three young leaders through the Youth Leadership Program,” said SRE General Manager and CEO Brian Hughey. “This educational opportunity lets students learn about history and government while building their leadership and networking skills.”
Information on the 2023 Youth Leadership Program will be delivered in the coming weeks to high schools serving Singing River Electric’s service area.
