Three Mississippi schools rank among the Top 25 HBCUs in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
Tougaloo College (No. 15), Jackson State (No. 18), and Alcorn State (No. 24) all found themselves on the list.
Here’s what each school’s president had to say:
“Providing academic training to economically disadvantaged students is part of Tougaloo’s mission. We will continue to pave the way to equal and accessible higher education,” Dr. Carmen J. Walters of Tougaloo said.
“These rankings serve as a frame of reference to what we offer not only as an HBCU but as an institution of higher learning. Our students receive real-world experiences in a holistic and nurturing environment that ensure their successful matriculation at JSU and in life. Being named a top 20 HBCU is a reflection of this,” Thomas K. Hudson of Jackson State said.
“I am deeply grateful for the unwavering commitment of our students, faculty, and staff to make Alcorn a top performer among the nation’s higher education institutions. Alcorn State University’s outstanding academic reputation, student-centered experience, and career-focused programs have continued to grow our reputation as an educational leader. I am truly excited to see our students excel in the classroom and beyond,” Dr. Felicia M. Nave of Alcorn State said.
