How would you like to take a trip back in time and experience life much different than our present day? You’ll get that opportunity this Friday, Nov. 22, in Hattiesburg as the Saenger Theater celebrates its 90th Anniversary. But, shh, keep it on the down low. This is the time when Prohibition ruled and passwords were needed to have secret parties and have a little fun.

The Spirits of the Saenger 90th Anniversary Speakeasy celebration will begin at 7:29 p.m., on Friday, and a grand celebration is promised. The party will feature the Cathead Distillery and Southern Prohibition, and they are prepared to party like it’s 1929!

In the spirit of the Roaring 20s, guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the celebration and come adorned in flapper dresses and attire straight from the 1920s. So dress to the 9s and slip into that swingy fringe dress and sparkly headband with feathers or your classic tuxedo or suit and stylish hat to enjoy a simply decadent and fun celebration. Hey! Turning 90 is a pretty big deal and should celebrated in grand style.

This prohibition-themed party is promised to be the “bees-knees.” Invite your friends and family but don’t let the coppers in on the secret. The party kicks off in the Seanger lobby, and the Speakeasy party is the only place where you can nab one of the commemorative Saenger Suzy B cans.

If you’re a fan of the spirits, then you’re in luck. You’ll be treated to an Old Soul Bourbon Whiskey tasting hosted by the Cathead Distillery.

Come hit the dance floor and do the Charleston or whatever dance you’d like as the University of Southern Mississippi Jazz Band, Larry Panella, and the Trad Daddies serenade you and send you back into this glorious time. To help inspire you to shake and shimmy, the Hattiesburglesque will be there in all their glory to perform and add a little more spirit to the evening.

A champagne toast to celebrate 90 fabulous year in the Hub City and a whiskey tasted will kick off the evening with a bang. Purchase a few of the classic cocktails that the staff will be stirring up all night and enjoy delicious hors d’oeurves.

There will be Seanger memorabilia and Classic Car photo opps and live music and dancing all night long. You just might come away with a special prize or giveaway, but even if you don’t win, don’t worry. There is so much to enjoy. Everyone will be delighted at the Behind the Scenes tours and 90 years of secrets from the Saenger and so much more!

The party is limited access, so get your tickets while you can. And keeping in the spirit of the party, don’t forget to get the secret password that will gain you access into the private speakeasy party! Tickets are $29 per person. The event is for ages 21 and up. IDs will be required.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m., Friday, 22, November 2019. The party kicks off at 7:29 p.m., at the Historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theater located on 201 Forrest Street in Hattiesburg. For more information, you can contact the Saenger Theater at (601) 584-4888.

Don’t let this party pass you by. This celebration has been 90 years in the making and promises to be a fun and exciting evening! So get ready to journey back into the Roaring ‘20s and kick up your heels as you celebrate this historic Hattiesburg landmark.
