Sawyer Brown Interview: South Mississippi Fair Centennial Celebration

Amid their cross country tour of the fair and arena circuit, “Star Search” winners and legendary group Sawyer Brown, of “Step that Step,” “Some Girls Do,” and “The Boys and Me” fame who have released 18 albums throughout their highly decorated career, took time out of their busy schedule to answer a few questions about performing at the Centennial Celebration of the South Mississippi Fair in Laurel.

Here are a few of our questions that the band so graciously answered.

Question: This is the 100th edition of the South Mississippi Fair. How does the band feel about being a part of that monumental occasion?
Answer: “100 years—Wow!” Lead singer Mark Miller said. “That’s a major milestone–and that makes us even more grateful to get to be part of it. Here’s to 100 more years!”

Question: What is their favorite part of playing to the fair crowds? Is it a different atmosphere?
Answer: “One of the great things about playing a show at a fair is that people truly come to the fair ready to have a good time,” Miller said. “The rides, the exhibits, the food (oh yeah, you know there’s going to be good food) and getting to see their neighbors–it all adds up to fun. So we’re glad to get to be a part of that.”

Question: What can fans expect from your concert?
Answer: “As for what the fans can expect–well, they can expect to have a good time because that’s what it’s all about for us,” Miller said. “We’re going to play a whole bunch of songs that folks will know from our records–and there’s going to be no shortage of energy on stage, too. And probably plenty of laughs along the way. So forget about whatever else is going on in your life and come to the show ready to have fun.”

Question: What would you say to invite everyone to come out to your show at the fair?
Answer: “Again, our main goal is for everyone to have fun,” keyboardist and vocalist Greg “Hobie” Hubbard said. “So our invitation would be that for everyone to come have fun with us. We know that everyone has a million things going on in their lives so what we want to do is to be a break in all of that. So come on out and see us. Grab some fried dough, ride a few rides (maybe not in that order), and come enjoy some Sawyer Brown music as part of the night!”

It’s not hard to tell that Sawyer Brown, one of the most fun, energetic groups in country music, is determined to give an amazing performance worthy of a centennial celebration. You know you’ll always have a good time at one of their high energy shows.

Don’t miss out when Sawyer Brown brings their special kind of Country-Rock music to the stage at the Magnolia Center on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the South Mississippi Fair in Laurel. Admission to the concert is free with the $5 admission to the fair. The concert begins at 8 p.m. See you at the fair!

Special thanks to Kelli Miller for all of her help with the article.
