While the faces around the Pascagoula River Audubon Center have changed, the mission of connecting people to nature and engaging the surrounding communities has not changed.

On April 1, PRAC welcomed Susan May Stachowski as the new Center Manager. She is a lifelong resident of Moss Point and a recent educator retiree with 25 years of service to the local school districts. She brings with her a wealth of educational knowledge and a lifetime of relationships with the Moss Point community.

Stachowski earned a B.S. in Communications from Mississippi University for Women where she focused on public relations. She later joined the education field as an English teacher where she rounded out her career in educational leadership after earning a Master of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

The main focus of this new position for Stachowski will be to oversee daily operations and work to build community partnerships with area businesses and residents. She will develop programs and activities that appeal to nature lovers of all ages and continue the mission of the National Audubon Society.

“I believe the Pascagoula River Audubon Center has the opportunity be a hub for environmental education and events for Moss Point and the surrounding communities,” Stachowski said. “Along with the educational aspects, visitors can also learn about the history of the Pascagoula River, a bit of local culture, and discover many other opportunities at the center.”

PRAC is building a busy calendar of event to attract educators, residents and community partners.
