August 19 is the first day of the 2017 season to pick muscadine grapes at the Boggy Creek Vineyard in Vancleave.
Every year, for two to three weeks of the season, people come from all over Jackson County (and probably further) to the Boggy Creek Vineyard to pick their own muscadine grapes while they are ripe. The vineyard is open to the public for a “pick you own event”. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own buckets and pails to carry home and turn into their favorite jams, jellies, wine, ice cream and even pie.
The three-week picking season will start this Saturday, August 19 at 7:30 a.m. There will be five varieties of grapes to pick from and they are priced at $1.10 per pound.
The vineyard, located at 11300 Paige Bayou Road, will be open for approximately three weeks-The first week they will open from 7:30am till 6pm. The remainder of the season they will open 7:30 to 11am, and then 3 till 6pm.
On Saturday, September 2nd the vineyard will host a harvest celebration day with games for kids, a bounce house, hay rides and more.
