Community, Caregiving, and Conversation: A Special Delta Event Honoring Alzheimer’s & Family Caregivers

November holds a special meaning across our state. It’s a month dedicated not only to Alzheimer’s Awareness, but also to the countless families who quietly shoulder the privilege and the weight of caregiving. And this weekend, the Mississippi Delta is opening its doors—and its heart—for an afternoon built around connection, resources, and hope.

On Saturday, November 15th from 3–5 p.m., the GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi in Cleveland will host a free, family-friendly Community Engagement Forum designed to support caregivers of all ages and bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and related memory disorders. Whether you’re a caregiver yourself, walking alongside a loved one, or simply wanting to better understand this part of the journey so many Mississippians are navigating, this event is a rare and meaningful opportunity.

A Powerful Afternoon of Storytelling & Support

The forum will feature a screening of the moving documentary My Mama Joe, Hope & Help, which airs and streams on the PBS platform. The film beautifully captures the realities, struggles, and deep love woven into caregiving. If you’ve ever been part of that world—or known someone who is—you’ll find yourself in these stories.

Following the screening, guests can join a panel discussion with local experts, diving deeper into the film’s themes and the real-life challenges facing Mississippi families. It’s an honest, open conversation meant to uplift and inform, not overwhelm.

    Hands-On Resources for Families

In addition to the film and panel conversation, the event will include:

    • A mini-information fair featuring local agencies and organizations

    • A printed resource guide to take home

    • Complimentary popcorn and soft drinks for every attendee

    • A tour of the GRAMMY Museum, one of the Delta’s most treasured cultural spaces

Everything has been intentionally designed to make families feel welcomed, supported, and equipped.

Caregiving Touches Every Generation in Mississippi

Caregiving isn’t just something our elders face. It’s a multi-generational reality in Mississippi. Grandparents caring for grandchildren. Adult children caring for aging parents. Teens helping support family routines. Churches stepping in. Neighbors filling the gaps. Here, caregiving looks like community—because it is.

That’s why this event matters. It’s a space where people can gather, learn, breathe, and walk away with real tools and connections. And best of all, it’s free and open to everyone.

    How to Attend

    Registration is now open at:

Walk-ups are also welcome as long as space allows, so feel free to share this opportunity widely—business owners, pastors, educators, students, families, and anyone who cares about caregiving in Mississippi.

If you’re in or around the Delta this Saturday, take the time to stop by. Bring a friend, a parent, a grandparent, or a neighbor. Grab your popcorn, listen to the stories, and be reminded—Mississippi is at its best when we show up for one another.
