Five Simple Decorating Ideas for Fall

Alas, the temperature is finally starting to drop, ever so slightly. A few leaves have fallen from the trees, and the mornings have become a bit cooler. Fall is on the way— a beautiful contrast to the scorching summer we endured this year. Although summer isn’t over yet, it is never too late to start shopping for your fall decor. If you need some inspiration or ideas, read more about five items that will beautifully complement your home for your fall decorating.

    Pumpkins

The quintessential fall decor piece. From pumpkin pies, to the pumpkin spice latte, this famous squash always speaks to the heart of fall. Utilizing pumpkins, during the fall, will always add an element of warmth and charm to your home. For a more traditional look, try an orange painted ceramic pumpkin. Using wicker-made pumpkins will give your space a more earthy and bohemian feel. If you’d prefer a glamorous finish, try going for pumpkins with sparkly paint. The most fun part about using pumpkins is that you can DIY many different aesthetics. Grab your art supplies and a plastic pumpkin, and make it your own!

    Blankets

Blankets are always a wonderful idea for decorating—even more-so in the fall when the weather is a bit chillier. Using fall themed blankets gives your home a cozy touch. Opt for blankets that are yellow, brown, orange, off-white, or burgundy. You can even opt for non-traditional fall colors that mesh well with the rest of your decorations. Try looking for blankets with interesting textures to add more depth to the aesthetic you’re going for.

    Doormats

Sometimes, we forget that doormats are not only practical, but they can be used to create an aesthetic we enjoy. You can find doormats with leaves, pumpkins, and with fun quotes. Make sure that your doormat is both sturdy enough to handle people walking over it without damaging it and fitting enough to let people know that fall starts early in your home!

    Wreaths

Wreaths are not only for Christmas. Fill your fall wreath with leaves, mini pumpkins, and whatever else you want. Wreaths are another item that can be DIY. If you don’t have the time to make one yourself, you can go to your local Home Goods and find one that you’ll love. Additionally, if you know someone who makes them locally, this would be a great way to support your local business owners this fall season!

    Candles / Room Sprays

While candles and room sprays may be deemed as items solely for the purposes of smell, candles and air fresheners can also enhance the look we’ve created with the rest of our decor. One fun assignment this fall is to pick a themed scent and stick to it until the end of fall. For example, if your fall theme is pumpkin, you’ll use pumpkin centered pieces and use a corresponding scent. If your theme is candy corn, make sure to buy some orange decorations and a candy corn candle. Take it a step further to see if you can find a candle that doubles as decoration!

    Embrace Seasonal Changes

One of my favorite fall quotes is: “Fall is a great time to gather memories, just like we gather leaves.” While decorating for fall is exciting, it is not essential for enjoying the season. As we slowly approach autumn, remember to embrace the changes of this season, savor the crunching sound of each leaf under your boots, and anticipate the fond memories that are sure to come.
