With all opening-round match-ups complete, all eyes in the prep basketball circles across the state of Mississippi turn to the upcoming weekend as second-round action tips off.

For the most part, all girls’ games will take place Friday night while the boys will play on Saturday. But there are a few cases involving teams from the “Southern Six” where boys will play on Friday and girls will play on Saturday.

In Biloxi, for example, both the Indians and Lady Indians will host Meridian on Friday night with the girls’ game set for 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at 7:30. And Saturday in Brandon, the Harrison Central girls face BHS at 4:30 followed by the Red Rebels and Bulldogs at 6 p.m.

The winners from this weekend will advance to quarterfinal play next week in four different sites across the state. All squads from the “Southern Six” that advance with a win this weekend will head to Poplarville next week for ongoing action at Pearl River Community College.
