Both Pass Christian squads came into the Region 8-4A Tournament this week as the top seeds on both sides of the boys’ and girls’ brackets.
And both the Pirates and Lady Pirates proved exactly why that was the case at the Tigerdome in Bay St. Louis Tuesday night.

The Pass Christian Pirates overcame a six-point deficit to take a 51-48 victory over the Greene County Wildcats as the region tournament continued into its second day of play.
Greene County, who defeated Stone on Monday to extend its season, dominated the first quarter, jumping out to a 20-12 lead.
Pass then turned on the defense, outscoring the Wildcats 14-1 in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead.
Despite a late run by the Wildcats, the Pirates were able to hold on and win 51-48.
L.J. James and Terry Patten both had 11 for the Pirates. Zane Denson led Greene County with ten points.
The Pass Christian Lady Pirates on Tuesday started off slow, but eventually pulled away to take a 45-19 victory over the Moss Point Lady Tigers in the second of action in the league tournament at The Tigerdome.
Moss Point defeated Stone County on Monday to reach the quarter-finals.

The first half was a defensive struggle with the Lady Pirates leading 6-3 after the first quarter and 16-5 at halftime.
In the second half, Pass pulled away and took a 45-19 final.
Kamiyah Pruitt led all scorers with ten and Amanda Crimm added nine for the Lady Pirates.
Jordyn Floyd netted nine points for Moss Point.

Unlike most leagues across the state of Mississippi and especially in the “Southern Six”, Region 8-4A has an odd number of teams on both the boys’ and girls’ sides of the brackets. Therefore, unlike all of Class 6A and 5A, in which three out of four teams make the state playoffs, in Region 8-4A there will be two teams on each side that won’t make the playoffs.
And one team on each side of the bracket saw its season come to a sudden halt after Monday nights games:
Each team that lost the opening round games on Monday in the Bay will be eliminated and move on to baseball and softball season, which starts next week.
Also, this event will be one of the only ones in the state that will play games every day this week, as two games will be contested each night starting at 6 p.m., Monday-Friday in the Tigerdome.
