Both home-standing George County and visiting Pascagoula picked up a pair of huge sweeps in region play Friday night, while Ocean Springs and D’Iberville split a pair of contests in league action as well.

In Lucedale, The Rebels and Lady Rebels each nabbed Region 8-5A wins over East Central, as the GCHS boys beat the Hornets 69-43 and the GCHS girls followed suit with a 39-30 win over the Lady Hornets.
The Rebels moved to 3-0 in league play with the victory, as GCHS placed four players in double digits led by Ethan Sibert’s 15 points. Hunter Barber and Marlin Odom each added 11 points apiece to the winning effort, and Deuce Knight chipped in 10 points as well for the Rebels as GCHS finished the first round of action in the loop unbeaten.
A.J. Hopkins paced ECHS with 14 points and Parker Martin added 12 points as the Hornets dropped to 0-3 in the region race.
The Lady Rebels moved to 2-1 in league action with the win, and sit in the second spot in the region race behind league-leading Gautier. George County actually trailed throughout almost all of the first half, and watched as the Lady Hornets took a slight 16-14 advantage into intermission. But the Lady Rebels used a 10-0 run in the midst of outscoring ECHS 15-6 in the third frame to take a 29-22 lead into the final quarter and moved on to the big win.
Dakari McNair tallied a game-high 12 points to lead GCHS, while Tenauri Daniels added seven points for the Lady Rebels. The Lady Hornets, who fell to 1-2 in region play, got seven points from Bri Tanner.
These same two schools meet in a rematch in Hurley on Friday, but before that both ECHS teams face Gautier on Tuesday.

In Region 8-6A action, Pascagoula headed to St. Martin and came away with a pair of road wins as the Panthers posted a 68-39 decision and the Lady Panthers earned a 39-31 win.
Dorian McMillian poured in a game-high 24 points for the league-leading Panthers, while Heim Fornett chipped in 12 points to the winning effort as PHS moved to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Yellow Jackets got 13 points from Ghabe Colding and 10 points from Monclair Brave in the loss, as SMHS dropped to 14-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The win by the Lady Panthers was their first league win of the season and moved them to 1-2 in the region race while the SMHS girls drop to 0-2 in league play. The SMHS girls got 10 points from Teirra Lee and nine points from La’dymein Lafayette.
The Pascagoula boys traveled to Jackson to face Horn Lake Monday afternoon at Lanier High in the MLK Classic. Both ‘Goula teams travel to Ocean Springs Tuesday night in region action.
Both SMHS squads host arch-rival D’Iberville in region play Tuesday night as well.
Speaking of Ocean Springs and D’Iberville, The Greyhounds nipped the Warriors 46-43 Friday night while the Lady Warriors slipped past the Lady Greyhounds 48-46 all in Region 7-6A action. The win moves the DHS girls to 3-0 in the league race.
